Mabelma's Thread of Stuff (Art)

(08-07-2009, 09:43 AM)Dark Kamek Wrote: Sorry that I came off like a dick about it, I just realized what a dick I was. But the reason I over reacted was this; I've seen people buy drawing on the right side of the brain, and after studying from it for a few months, their art went down in quality. Also this has happend more than once, about a good 4-5 times so. I know that really isn't like a national statistic for a research thing or anything but it seems to be a bit easy to say it's not just a coincidence.

It's always good you know what you did and that you're sorry. Now back on topic.

LilGrim1991 Wrote:Maby, you're doing what we call in our school "sausage-men". You're not drawing the placement of the body parts, you're drawing the muscles that let you make those poses.

You don't know what extreme lengths I went to find my gesture drawings from ten years ago up to now just to show you my progress and make a video of advice specifically for you, but the only stuff I couldn't find was anything recent. Apparently, over the years I dropped my habit of saving my artwork. Tongue

Sooo, I just wish you all the best of luck, dude, and I hope you enjoy the art as much as I have.

Thanks please do the video and post the link to it so I can see it. If you can find the work. I will be very grateful for it. Thanks and yes I enjoy art I don't know if it's as you do cause I don't how passionate you are about it but I know i enjoy every aspect of it. Thanks for posting and I know I will improve thanks to all of you guys. Thanks!!

I'm sorry for today's update. I know it's only one drawing but it's because I'm sick and I'm not feeling well I just want to sleep and do nothing all day. At least I drew something even when I was feeling so low. Please comment and Critic. http://i451.photobucket.com/albums/qq234...5127PM.jpg

It's alittle hard to give critic when I'm trying to figure out what it is.

Commenting however, I must say... I don't know what it is but I swear its going to eat me. It makes me remember a certain robot from a certain windows game from decades ago...
A thousand lips, a thousand tongues, a thousand throats, a thousand lungs, a thousand way to make it true...

Hey Mabelma, have you reread the posts I made on your last drawing thread? I don't trust books. Sure, they show anatomy and brushstrokes, etc. but you need to apply it yourself. You need to apply it, try it out, work it out. You need to see a result and try and work a way out to get to it. I rely more on my own anatomy now than the one in my book. I sometimes spend time looking at myself in a mirror moving my arms or legs and contracting, so I get an idea on how everything works and looks.
Have you sketched things that you have seen in the day, such as animals, people, architecture or landscapes? Have you tried different media? If you haven't, do so. I suggest watercolours nad pencils for the day. Keep on posting.

uh
the books we're suggesting outline specific excercises to do
and methods for observational drawing
it's not just "HURR DURR COPY THIS"

Between this and your "real artists don't use reference" shtick in the last thread I am thinking that you have no idea what you're talking about.

I think you didn't get my "real artists don't use reference" point: I meant that an artist, after gathering sufficient experience (with media, and knowledge on anatomy, light) can then go without using a reference if they have this aforementioned experience. Besides that's not the shtick I want him to memorise, it's the stuff I mentioned in the post you quoted above.
As for the books, I apologise, I was in a hurry at the time of its posting, it's my books that I don't trust because they don't explain nor make you do exercises.
Mabelma can go ahead and get a book you suggest if he wants to, it all depends if he feels comfortable in doing so. I personally don't and like working my way around things, which is one approach in art (or any other domain) among many.
I hope I've made things clear. And I think I know what I'm talking about at least as well as you do, Epistaxis. Except we don't have the same approach.

Uh
even if you're experienced with anatomy, clothing, light, architecture, whatever, you still need to use reference on occasion.
PS thanks for the PM I needed a laugh.

thats one of the dumbest things ive ever heard.
shit if what you said were the case that "real artist" would be god himself.
idk where you kids get the idea "not using references for something IS COOL AND ELITE". that's some babyartbullshit.

I'll prove that someday with my babyartbullshit. Cut the condescending crap, you're barely an adult. You're being elitist, you think you're cool.
Anyway, let's get back to Mabelma's problem, shall we? Mabelma's old enough to look at all the posts, think about it, and make his own mind up. He's not going to follow the person (or persons) who bully others into their beliefs.
Oh
Epistaxis I'm glad I made you laugh with my idiocy, especially if your life is sad and shitty (from what I've heard of it)

Oh wow. You're called out on your statement by a logical retort, and you resort to personal attacks.

That's not how you cast a balanced argument. Warned.

So instead of putting up a proper argument against my "slightly sarcastic" response you attack me and give me a negative for false accusations.

Proof you are a baby. I've lost all the respect I had for you.

Wait
You're saying that real artists don't use reference, and then calling us elitists?
lol forever

I fail to see how you deciding I have a sad and shitty life makes my argument less valid, or your argument more valid, or whatever it is that you're trying to achieve by asserting that I am so very sad and stressed out.
Actually trying to assess someone based on their posts online is absolutely ridiculous, not to mention very, very low. If I were as stressed out and depressed as you think I am, it'd be completely vile to use that as ammunition to insult me.

Especially with phrasing like "whiny gothfag"; classy.

i like this thread

of course, once you know and learnt how to do things like clothing folds and lightsources, you will prefer to do it on your own than doing with a reference, because doing with a reference feels copying, and doing by yourself feels better and more open. and if you really trust your skills that much, you will want to do without a reference, even though if you really want to make it excelent, you will want to search for references
(please do correct me if i'm wrong, zee and jar!!)

but your point was that he, that JUST started to get more interested in drawing, start observing real life and start copying it without the proper education of observing real life and without previous references to learn how to do it
then you backpedal saying that everyone that already knows how a certain thing happens IRL must do without a reference
and then you go personal >: i don't really get the seriousness in here am I missing something???
