Plot: Save the environment from Robotnik/Eggman and save the animals.

And there you'll have: A good Sonic game. Cuz that's all Sonic used to be a about.

And it worked fantastically!

...

In the early nineties. :/

Seriously. Hey Sonic team? Realize Sonic is too stuck on the nineties ("SEGA does what NintenDON'T!") as his main gimmick was being fast, which in today's consoles is useless, and "cool", which is something that changes every couple of years, but if you try to change him to keep with the current notion of "cool", everyone will just say Sonic was sold.

they do the same simple shit for mario

why are they so afraid of doing it for sonic again? would it REALLY not work? im asking out of curiousity because i stopped getting into sonic.

i have yet to see/hear a good reason why they can't do it again. if anyone knows the answer id like to know. id find out myself but like i said i stopped getting into sonic.

SEGA tried to make Sonic look "cool" to nowadays.

Yeah, that didn't really work pretty well.

Sonic was made in the 90s, the whole atmosphere of the game says "RUNNING IN THE 90s!" The surrealist backgrounds, the pseudo-3D structures based on geometric formats, the whole nature x technology setting, the Mickey Mouse-ish looks of Sonic, everything.

Sonic modernized, as seen in Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, and that did work well, Sonic was all about attitude, and when I first took a glance at this artwork:

I said: "Fuck yes, this Sonic looks BADASS as hell"
but then, Sonic Heroes and onward, Sonic stopped looking cool and just looked retarded, childish.

We want that cool, badass Sonic. His attitude was what made the character popular, not just among the weeaboos that are fans of his new games.

Simple. Mario was never "cool". Mario always strived to be an imagination, "kiddy" land with simple platforming and silly monsters and looking straight out of a children's book. This is somethign you can count on to be constant- in 20 years, kids will still love Mario, and with them, the grown-ups that played Mario as kids. Because Mario, like Mickey, is based on that idea of kid fun. Sonic, on the other hand, was "cool" and "edgy". Which, as I've said, ends up mounting to a fad.

EDIT: Rokkan got the point I was trying to do- when SEGA tryed to make Sonic "cool", we ended up with Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic with a sword.

Sure, Sonic Adventure was cool. But if they pulled it again, everyone would just go like "TOO MANY CHARACTERS, TOO MANY HUMANS!"

that's understandable, thanks for clearing that up.

I'm just referring to Sonic's attitude, not the whole game. I thought that was the point of your argument...?

Sonic is not cool anymore, he just looks retarded, always smiling, never having an actual personality out of being hyperactive and shouting "cool" "yeah" and having that goddamn smile over and over again on his face, like he was this perfect being.

We all know that this is not cool.

And now we all like those kill everything in sight and coming to self games nowadays, don't we?

One more post of yours like this and I'm putting you on Wikipedia under bin Laden as "Extremist Fundamentalist". That IS NOT ANYTHING WHAT ROKKÄN SAID.

I apoligize Rokkän, misunderstood your post. I suppose you have a point, but in my opinion, it wouldn't change much. Make him more badass... how would one achieve this? I'm honestly clueless, as badassery is relative. Make him more like Sonic Adventure? I found him much Adventure-esque in Unleashed. Again, personal opinion, and I'm not even much sure of this unlike with that "Cool" discussion.

And yet, I was talking about how sonic team was trying to keep up with the trend here. obviously they failed with shadow the hedgehog with the coming to self/kill everything in sight category of plot within the game.

what they really need to do is to look back at the games that made them successful in the first place, and apply it to newgen games.

Yeah I really don't mind Sonic's personality, its his new voice actor that makes it annoying.

Press Right to go forward, A to jump, kill the little robots? Wasn't that called... eh... Sonic Advance? Didn't it get, eh... panned? As in, in this generation used to more complex gamestyles, what worked in the nineties won't work as easily?

Of course, if SEGA's smart, they'll pull a Megaman 9. "OKAY, SO YOU WANT A GAME LIKE OLD SONIC GAMES? HERE! DOWNLOAD IT ON VIRTUAL CONSOLE, IT'S GOT SPRITES, IT'S GOT THE SAME ENGINE AS SONIC 3!

But honestly, how rentable would this be?

I'll admit to something... when SEGA was doing the viral campaign of Puyo Puyo 7, I wished, openly, it would be a new mascot so they could just kill Sonic. He's too saturated, give him a rest. Bring back Alex Kidd, let us forget Sonic.

Obviously if they did this they would be out of their cashcow.

Interesting how this went from Sonic's gameplay to Sonic's attitude.

We're just trying to do the job we assume SEGA isn't doing and trying to figure out what's wrong nowadays with Sonic.

But the fact his attitude is considered as important as his gameplay seems to just further my point of how Sonic was way too much heavily dependant on being "cool".

FUCK YOU. SHUT YOUR WHORE MOUTH.
Alex Kidd is a piece of shit.

You know why Sonic Rush and the Adventure games were good while anything else after SA2 wasn't? Gameplay.
It's that simple. They had good, classic, gameplay.

I gave Alex Kidd as an example since it seems SEGA's planning on bringing him back.

Also, I love the irony of how you say the adventure games had classic gameplay. Riiight. It played just like Sonic 1, right?
