Ridge's WIP M&L:BIS Sheets
These are absolutely amazing! They look just like they came from the game! Heart

Whether or not anyone's been wondering why this topic is sort of dead on my end, I think it's time I shed some light on that. There's good reason.

In the BIS ripping thread, I mentioned that I needed a good number of sprites' tiles, most effects and some backgrounds for a personal project. Well, it's actually not just for new custom sheets: they'll be needed for a fan RPG I'm working on using BIS graphics and mechanics. I won't go into any real detail here, as I'd ultimately like to save that for its own thread. Before I post it, though, I need to ask: Would I still be able to post a topic about the game in Game Dev if it only has sprites, plot, game mechanics, and dialogue, but no programming to speak of yet? I do have someone who plans on coding the game, but not at the present time.

As you would probably guess by now, this means that I've been working on a shitton of sprites for the game in BIS style. I have a good number of WIP sheets/animations I could show off, but I'll only show a few since even the future coder has requested to be held off on spoilers as long as possible (if I get approved to post the thread, I will likely include spoiler-esque sprites, etc in tags).

I don't expect anyone here on tSR to use these for anything, but since visitors from other sites are more unpredictable, I need to say this:
Please do NOT use these sprites. At all. I'd like my spritework to draw people to the game itself rather than being featured in sprite comics, etc prior to being released.

I'm sorry, but it looks kinda akward with Bowser here. Is he supposed to be laughing? Shocked

Looks like he's looking down at someone below him and having a dialogue. One idea would be for the MechaKoopa's cycle. Maybe when it speeds up there's a little spark/puff of smoke and the pupils get smaller, then it all goes back to normal in the regular cycle?

Also, please let that Blooper's name be Dr. Calimari. Please.

It be better not to post them if you don't want people to use them/steal them. Maybe PM them to people you know won't repost or use.
If you post them its all a matter of time before someone claims to be you on another site or even tries using them for their own project...

Also these are amazing, honestly you've mastered the BIS style

That blooper is fantastical.

Beautiful, but I have an issue with the fancy Blooper. You added a band of AA across the top of his hat, and I'm pretty sure M&L style doesn't band across flat lines.

Yes, that's exactly what Bowser is doing, though the main emphasis was the new Clown Car.
Not a bad idea for Mecha-Koopa, I'll have to consider it though. The original intent of that idle quirk was to look more like an actual windup toy jittering, not as if he's breaking down.

Actually... his name's Bloopregard.

While that's somewhat true, how else am I supposed to show progress on the game if there's no engine? Even if there were a demo of sorts, people would still try to rip sprites. I can't go without critique.

Is there a solution to this that I'm not thinking of?

HOW DARE YOU QUESTION ME, THE ALMIGHTY M&L KING?

It's in style, don't worry. Here are a few examples:

Well actually you might not have to worry too much, I don't see many people making hacks/fan games of the M&L series(not sure about sprite comics). And I feel members won't use them.

The things you want people to see post them, but I'm sure there are people you can trust on this site that you could PM and get feed back without the worry. However I personally would love to see more.

Also question for the mods is it possible to make threads accessible to members or people you know only????
(If so that could solve the issue you have.)

You can always watermark the sprites.

Also yes, you can make the GameDev thread without a demo, though if you could use mockups to demonstrate gameplay that'd be great Genki ^_^

We can have subforums do that (like the Real Life subforum), but not threads i don't think... (Correct me if I'm wrong, fellow mods)

The Clown Car is awesome. I love it.

You'd be surprised. Unfortunately, content is still stolen and reposted without permission on both MFGG and deviantART, for example.

It's a nice idea, but anyone can register an account on a forum. Also, I wouldn't want to be the exception to the point that staff would essentially have to babysit my threads.

Is this too obnoxious?

Awesome, thanks! Mockups are something I'd like to see for myself, if not just to hold myself over until the game is a thing, so I'll definitely be making some when I'm able.

Actually that's true(happened to my sprites before).

And looks good I can still read the sprite.
(I think Neslug does something similar with his sprites)

Oh okay, I never noticed that. They must have changed that "rule" in M&L3 then.

Why must you baffle me like this?
Beautiful work as always, my friend. As I said to you earlier, looking forward to that fangame!
Can't wait to see how it turns out.
