Game?
Looks like a spambot.

I'm probably going to hate myself for doing this, but:

There's the game so far, including the character designer.

It has an ENORMOUS amount of bugs at this moment.
- When you import an image, you may have to try more than once.
- Testing character with a blank character will glitch up and freeze the game.
- If the game freezes, just refresh. Save your character CONSTANTLY (and I recommend that you make backups...)
- I bet there is lots of glitches with undoing/redoing....

And incomplete stuff.
- You can't delete anything in the library
- Can't copy/paste frames
- New Character button doesn't do anything..
- You can't make attacks do any damage
- There is no sound effects support (It will glitch up if you upload a sound effect)
- Online battle mode doesn't work in this specific demo..
- You need a mouse wheel to scroll the Library and Animations windows (I haven't drawn a scroll-bar yet)

But I should explain to you the controls:
- Start by going to file - import, select and upload a few sprites for your character. (All need to be an individual file, sorry. I will work on getting animated gifs working soon)
- If it worked, Save it... Go to File -> Save
Use this to learn how to make animations: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkqnAUxScmg
Other controls:
- On the workspace, hold space and click to drag the workspace around... The plus shows where the characters feet go.
- Use the mouse wheel to scroll though the library and list of attacks...
- At the top (the timeline) The circle button will create frames that carry on what is on the last key frame.
- ^ The plus button is a keyframe.
- To scale an image, use control + arrow keys.
- To rotate an image, use Z and X
- Holding shift will move by units of 10.
- Press , and . to change frames forward and back.
- Press enter to play the animation (It will play at 32 fps)
- You can toggle a layer's visibility by clicking on the name of it. (So that you don't accidentally click it when you need to edit something behind it)

You can load this character as an example of how to make one yourself:
http://www.runouw.com/smash/game/CharacterGooey7
^ save the file as a .txt then load it with File - Load Character

I'm only posting this online because it has been far too long since I first showed that I've been working on it and because of school and other stuff I have made almost no progress. But soon I will be working on this finishing stuff and fixing bugs because it is summer break for me.

Like you said a little glitchy and tends to freeze alot, though you have added in more sound effects though some of them sound 8-Bit.

Ahh, that was a glitch with the sound, causing it to freeze. Fixed it... That had nothing to do with the Character Designer though.

Thats pretty awesome. Though yeah, it is buggy.

From this point on, I would like people to post the bugs they find in detail so I can fix them.
I would also like to see if anyone can get the character designer working for any of the new characters being made in the project.
Plus I would like tips on how to make the character designer easier to use.

Will do. Also, is the actionscript panel necessary for doing most attacks? It would seem so, seeing as most characters have a unique attack pattern.

for simplicity, I would add a button that said 'Import Sprite' and another that said 'Import sound'

I haven't tried it yet (and I seriously look forward to do so), but I notice you don't have arrows for people to press to scroll through the moves list. This is a serious hassle for people whom have mouses that don't actually have wheels. I know they're ancient, but you know... just in case. Tongue

EDIT: Just re-read it... haha, I didn't see the bit where you said "I haven't drawn the scroll bar yet". My bad!

I'm sure you would've added it later on anyway. Now... I'm going to spend the next couple of hours playing around with this thing. Aww man, I can't wait! Big Grin

If anyone needs help with the actionscript panel, I'll program it for you. And I think I'll get started on making documentation on everything you can use. (For now you can look closely at Gooey's code)

double post
Maybe I should post a new topic (perhaps it could be stickied) for the game's engine. Then I could update the first post with the latest playable version and current progress.

(btw, I haven't heard any bug reports for the character designer... has anyone been using it?)

Do whatever you want, man. That sounds like a good idea. Then there's a solid place to go to check it out.

Whoop. I'll definitely get on bug picking for the character designer tomorrow, Runouw. In the meantime, I think the core engine is of the most importance. I do think that a perfected Character Designer would speed up production significantly if you could use it to program the attacks for the other characters.

Of course, you probably wouldn't be able to add too much. Gooey is the only really complete character sheet right now.

Hey, that might be a good idea! I've been visiting the forums as a guest for quite some time, and I'd love to see these in a game! If these sheets ever get finished (sorry--I meant WHEN they!), and if I ever get into making a game, would it be OK to use these in a game? IF I get to making games, I doubt I will anytime soon.

Say, is there a Smash Bros. engine for Game Maker? Y'know, like the Hello Engine, but for Smash games? I could maybe use that.

SUDDENLY 5 MONTH BUMP OUT OF NOWHERE.
