#SmashBrosUltimate - Smash Bros for Switch.

I don't think I was ever this happy about a character reveal. With the exception of le too big dragon but he was less surprising.

I'm pretty glad that King K. Rool finally has an official spot in the fighting roster. That's another reason for me to get a Switch.

Rool from Donkey Kong were very well done, still i hope that Rayman, Earthworm Jim, Banjo-Kazooie, get in a smash bros someday as playable characters, there the last of the characters from the 90's that had a major influence from the 90's, we have pretty much all the 80's iconic characters except Goemon could work as an assist trophy maybe?

You dropped Spyro, Crash, and Frogger, man.

Man. I'm so happy right now. I'll get over no Dixie. I'm just happy to see another DK rep. Simon Belmont was a glaring hole in the roster and I'm glad to see him.

If we can just get Geno, we will never need another Smash game.

She still has a shot.

At this point I wouldn't mind if she were an echo (something I've been very against). Give me Kiddy as an echo of Donkey and we'd have the whole SNES bunch back together.

I'm really late to the conversation, since I didn't initially watch the Direct until later on. But wow, I did not expect that coming. Simon and Richter Belmont coming to Ultimate along with some goodies from Castlevania. Then, there's the two new echo fighters, Chrom and Dark Samus. Holy crap I did not realize that Chrom would eventually become a playable character, finally. I thought he would become Ike's Echo Fighter but I guess I was wrong. As for Dark Samus, I was not expecting her appearance as an Echo Fighter.

Now for King K. Roll, this dude has been the topic of the thread. I didn't really care at first, hell I doubted that he was gonna appear, but since he's been confirmed to be in Smash, I'll care this time. His gameplay looks interesting and K. Roll's introduction card is funny.

still gonna wonder how are they gonna top this off with the next character reveals, also King K. Rool looks like he a unique moveset for a heavy fighter too, also can't wait to collect there amiibos as well.

yeah my bad Kriven, even though most Spyro games have gone downhill over the years from what i've seen of gameplay and i only played the first three on ps1 and one of the gamecube ones so he's not memorable to me, only played a handful of the Crash Bandicoot games as well so he's not really memorable to me either, and Frogger i only played like the 2nd one on playstation and one of the gba ones so he's the least memorable to me so yeah.
What Rips am i doing next not sure?

It'd be tough, but if my bets are on anyone, Issac, Quote, Shantae, Banjo, A Battletoad or Conker, and possibly another third party would be likely be the only surprising ones at this point.

Other than that I'm pretty sure just about every smash fan's wet dream was answered yesterday as far as the roster of roughly 70+ characters now from the majority of games that ever showed up on a nintendo console.
[Image: fake-super-smash-bros-characters-super-s...00-490.jpg]
The only characters we need now are Marvel, DC, Anime and for some reason Star Wars characters with the official roster confirmed so far then all the smash fans who make these are gonna go nuts.

As far as Spyro, Crash, and Frogger goes while we're on that discussion: To be honest as much as I want to see the latter two in I question how memorable they are beyond the PS1 games and their remakes. It's possible for them to be in there's no question since they've both had games on every console but I don't know how many people actually cared enough to but whatever was on GBA, NGC, Wii, Wii U, DS, PS2, PSP, PS3, etc. And if either one made it in I'd imagine Crash just on the basis he's already got a good amount of moves just from his original trilogy alone.

I could see Spyro as an assist if anything. Same could be said for Frogger (and not the weird GBA version of the character that tried something totally different by coming off some weird medieval vibe) just because I'd imagine only the arcade games and the PC/PS1 games are what people remember playing of him to base any action of him doing anything.

I mean, I wasn't saying that those three are viable candidates (well, at least not Frogger), but the post I quoted was specifically talking about video game characters in regards to their status as icons for specific decades. I don't think you can deny that Frogger was up there with Pac-Man and Donkey Kong in the 1980s or that Crash and Spyro were more than one rung below Mario and Sonic in the 90s (and I actually forgot Lara Croft as well). That was my only point. I'd be happy to see any of them show up, though.

Characters I think have a reasonable chance of showing up: Geno, Shantae, Spring Man, Banjo, Captain Toad, Dixie

Geno, Shantae, Banjo, and Dixie are really the only remaining hold-outs from the "Old Days" of Smash fanquesting. K. Rool, Daisy, Ridley, and Simon are all on the same level of being old-time demanded characters, and here they are. Krystal, Bomberman, and Sukapon are also from this group and are Assist Trophies this time (while others from this group have been ATs for a while, like Starfy, Lyn, and Waluigi). Of the more modern characters to be high fan requests are Shovel Knight (Assist Trophy), Chrom and Dark Samus (playable).

Toad is the odd one out. He's still utilized as Peach's special. However, he's probably the oldest and most storied of the high-request characters, and has double cred when you consider the fact that Captain Toad often shows up in roster discussions. I imagine that iteration of the character has a chance, being double fan-favorite and a recent IP.

Spring Man is just recent IP.

I don't think all of these characters will appear. But if I were to bet on any group of characters to show up next, I would bet on more than one from this list getting in.

I think Geno is definitely in. I think he's the one who will make the biggest splash, and he's probably the only one (other than Banjo) who can really top the reveals of K. Rool and Ridley.

Edit: I forgot Isaac, and it's interesting that we haven't seen him as an Assist Trophy yet.

I thought Isaac was an Assist Trophy in Brawl?

This is pretty funny though

He was an Assist Trophy in Brawl, but we haven't seen anything to indicate that he is returning as one in Ultimate.

I've made a list of stages from previous games that haven't made it in. This only includes stages available in multiplayer, so no Metal Mario stage and the like. I've marked stages I believe have zero chance of returning with an X, stages that should/could return with an O and others with a -, followed with my reasoning for them.

N64:
X Sector Z: Too similar to Corneria (Melee)
X Planet Zebes: While the layout is different, it doesn't offer much compared to Brinstar (Melee) and Norfair (Brawl).

Melee:
O Mute City (F-Zero X): The Mute City from Smash 3DS is renamed Mute City SNES, maybe to differentiate it from this stage. It might be too similar to Port Town Aero Dive. On the other hand, they already have the machines in the Big Blue stage.
O Poké Floats: Not a must-have really, but it's odd enough that it has its fans.
- Icicle Mountain: The lack of vertically scrolling stages is suspicious, not counting parts of 3D Land. Besides, Summit is a better visual rep in my opinion.
X Mushroom Kingdom: We already have the N64 one.
X Flat Zone: It exists as part of Flat Zone X.

Brawl:
-Rumble Falls: Same as Icicle Mountain. Wouldn't mind seeing it back, wouldn't mind seeing it gone either.
X Flat Zone 2: It exists as part of Flat Zone X.
X Picto Chat: We already have Picto Chat 2.

3DS:
O Rainbow Road: It represents the climax of every Mario Kart game, making it very iconic. It's weird to see it gone from the roster, though I understand we have a ton of travelling stages already.
O Pac-Maze: This is what Pac-Man is known for. This is the only stage in this list I demand, though I'll settle for a new stage based on the original Pac-Man without a gimmick that requires a screen per human player. A Pac-Maze 2. Smash is no stranger to sequel stages (Pokémon Stadium, Picto Chat, Flat Zone, etc.)

Wii U:
O Woolly World: It represents a different take on Yoshi, a new style of world. Imagine switching between the papercraft world of Paper Mario and the arts-and-crafts world of Yoshi's Woolly World in the new stage shuffle mode. Besides, just port the stage like you ported the rest of the Wii U stages. How hard can it be? #armchairgamedeveloping
O Orbital Gate Assault: They spent a year making this stage. It's a shame to let it go to waste.
- Jungle Hijinxs: It's love for DKC Returns, but the stage gimmick isn't as good as it was on paper.
X Pyrosphere: Ridley was the main gimmick of this stage. He's now a playable character. If you want a fiery Metroid stage, Norfair's the place to go.
X Miiverse: It's Battlefield with a background gimmick that requires a dead service.

That's just 6 reasonably, but not very important stages that are missing, with 3 I consider maybes, out of 17 total. It's amazing how little is left to choose from when it comes to returning stages. I feel a little greedy just with how spoiled we're getting (5 characters in a single Direct, oh my God), but I know not to look a gift horse in the mouth. But to look a gift horse in the mouth:
1. We really need a Pac-Maze stage or something similar.
2. I noticed in the Direct that the battlements on Hyrule Castle's central tower have the same graphical error as in Smash for Wii U, as in the even-numbered tiles aren't mirrored to make it symmetrical. I hope that gets patched. It's no end of the world, but it bugs me every time I see it.

Also, I believe Ancestral Steppe from Monster Hunter 4 is a regular stage. A stage can be flat and span across both blastlines on the sides and not be just a single player boss stage. It's surprising a simple design like that hasn't been done in multiplayer before and a Monster Hunter theme works perfectly with a big, open field like that.

There will be more characters and at least one of them will bring his or her own stage, so also given A. Steppe, I severely doubt 103 is the final stage count.

Man, this upsets me. I vastly prefer Zebes to Brinstar. So many fond memories of fighting over that little elevator platform.

Now that we know echoes don't have to be 1 to 1 clones of the base character (Chrom is a Roy clone with Ike's recovery), Dixie could totally be a Diddy echo with DK's recovery.

I'm emotional.

It's gonna be satisfying to know that my most-wanted newcomer is IN and I won't have to worry anymore after being SO let down by Smash 4.

I'm gonna become the best K. Rool player in my area Heart
