How to Texture Unreal Engine .psk Models?
#1
Question
I've recently found out how to extract .psk files from Unreal Engine games, but I have no idea how to apply the textures to them. The .psk format doesn't work with Blender, so is there any way to apply the textures using Noesis, or umodel? I've searched everywhere but I can't find any tutorials for texture application that aren't for Blender, 3DS Max, or Autodesk, and I'm hoping someone here knows how to texture .psk models. Also I feel I should ask if .psk models are accepted to this site, or if I should convert them. Also is there anything else I should know when working with these models?

I have a sample model here in case it's needed, I also included the textures, and materials with it. https://mega.nz/#!UbhjEazS!sap9OGPI4Rpkt...Z2dWd1Qh0M

Convert the psk to dae with Noesis make sure to select flip uvs or the uvs depending on what program you use will be upside down, open the dae in something like notepad++ and delete the "../../../../../noesisv4205/" and change the "Wep_3rdP_RailGun_MIC" to the texture name "Wep_3rdP_RailGun_D.png"
There is a psk importer for Blender, but it's not as good as Noesis, this might have changed since I used the psk importer last but, eh.

You're also gonna want to split out the color channels of "Wep_3rdP_RailGun_M" from what I can tell, the Green & Red channels both hold roughness specular, and I have no clue what the Alpha or Red channels would be used for if they even are used. You can do this easily with Texture Remix also make sure to convert the textures to PNG before submitting you can quickly do this all at once with XnConvert

Well thanks for trying, but it didn't work for me. First off there was no ../../../../../noesisv4205/ line when I opened it in notepad++. I used the hex editor plugin as well, and the ../../../../../noesisv4205/ line still wasn't there. The textures don't work either I just get an error applying texture message when I try to apply them. Also do I have to use Blender to texture it? I'd rather use something else free, as Blender runs like trash, and crashes constantly on my PC even though I'm miles over the recommended specs. Sad

You can use the free 3d max student version.

I got Blender to work this time, and I can apply the textures, the thing is I kinda can't see them, the railgun still appears exactly the same as when it had no textures. I don't really get what I'm doing wrong, if I'm even doing anything wrong, I'm not sure if this method just flat out doesn't work, or I did something wrong. If it's not too much to ask, can you actually texture it and show me how it was textured? It's very hard to know if this method even works or not if I can never see the results.  Ded

I converted the .psk file to Wavefront .obj format using the 3D Object Converter.
Please try the attached file.

J-j-just no, this gun has rigged parts that would be useful for anybody using it. OBJ kills the rigging.

Did you convert the psk to dae first with Noesis? if so it should be in the dae, might be something else depending on your version of Noesis. You should be able to use whatever program you want that supports dae once you get this part down.

Here's a render with all its textures applied

I'll just send it to you if you want if you still can't figure this out.

Well, I managed to do at least make it work now, but somehow I ended up with this monstrosity, and don't know why it ended up like this. Also what software did you use for the picture? I used GIMP to just remove the background from a screenshot because I had no other idea what to use for the picture.  Sad

The UVs need flipped, make sure to select the "FlipUVs" option in Noesis when converting from psk to dae, this depends on what program you're using to view the model as not all programs read the dae the same, Blender needs them flipped. You could also just flip the textures vertically.

I use Blender, and if you do as well, to make the background of the render transparent click on "Render" button next to the "File" button in the top left of the screen then in the drop down menu go to OpenGL Render Options > Alpha Mode > Select "Transparent"

I did flip the UV's though, maybe I have to not flip them, or it's just a bug. But I'll try making the background of the render transparent and see if that helps. I would have tested it without the UV's flipped already but my PC is running like shit today, and I don't really know why. I know it's not the whole Intel CPU bug thing, because I have an AMD CPU, but after I get it working better I'll try what you said. Oh and thanks for not giving up on me, I'm shit at this whole model thing because I have no idea what I'm doing, and barely know how to use Blender. >.>

Well I made it work partially, but the issue is Noesis is the only app that the textures show up in at all. It also looks bad compared to the picture you posted of it. For some reason I found that the .mat file is "completely useless?" and looks exactly the same without it, but I may just be doing something wrong on that part. Anyway could you send me yours so I could take a look at it, and so I can know what the finished project looks like file wise? I'd also like to know what software was used for the screenshot, because the quality is crap just screenshotting Noesis and removing the background. I also posted the updated model to my MEGA page. https://mega.nz/#!ZbhzFJwB!pO00xunQPZldZ...R8Za17N1LY

I kinda feel like every time I take a step forward, the issue changes, but then again I have near zero modelling experience and it's blatantly obvious. >.>

Oh, and the issue was I applied the textures in the wrong order >.>

The mat file is only useful for the Unreal Engine, no need to include it.

A few things about your export first, you have exported your camera, and lamp with the model, this doesn't matter too much but it would be better not to, So make sure to only select the Armature and the Mesh and hit the key combination ALT+R, next time you export it make sure THESE are selected when you do. It also looks like you did flip the UVs correctly the first time, but now it's broken in Blender, Noesis' Viewer tends to view UVs differently.

Seeing as your dae was exported from Blender, to get a preview of the textures in the view port change this [Image: MJ6RO7y.png]
to this [Image: NuhvprU.png]

And I've answered what program I use in my last reply, It's Blender.

Yeah I don't think I'll be able to complete this at least with Blender. I try to view it and my GPU goes apeshit, and overheats badly. So I guess I'll just have to call it quits, it's not worth ruining my GTX 1050 so I can texture a few models from a game. Maybe I'll try again when I get a better GPU, but it just doesn't make sense as to why this is happening. I can play games for 10 hours straight and not see shit like this happen. And I'm kinda out of options on what to use, because Blender is the only thing I know of that is free other than Noesis.

Noesis is a model viewing and conversion program that is very useful due to its expandable nature through plugins/add-ons. A link to the home site of Noesis is as follows: https://www.richwhitehouse.com/index.php...ojects.php
