Filler's Sprites
#1
After a very long time of not doing so.

Anyhow, here's a house I'm working on. It's okay, I guess?

And yes, that's a bird nest on the chimney, don't ask why.

(Quick edit) thread name was changed to sound less negative.

Is this house going to be for a platformer? If so, this looks pretty cool! It reminds me of the starting houses from Trip World and Frogatto.

Your perspective is a bit skewed, though. The cylindrical section in the middle isn't flat with the rest of the house and that doorstep shouldn't be elevated like that. Also, the checked pattern of the roof doesn't look very natural since it doesn't curve with the roof. If you can't pull off that idea, go with some shingles at a 45-degree angle instead.

I'm working on shading it, but it this better, now?

The roof will get a quick fix up soon. Sorta focusing on the colouring more.

EDIT: I forgot, this is the "quality" concept are I drew for the area the sprite takes place in. Not really a sprite, but I guess it counts?

Removed AA because it took too long. And I re-did a-lot form scratch to fit the "top down" styled view.

The shadows from the topmost structures are cast as if the rooftop is completely flat. Have them curve from the angle they're currently at until, by the bottom of the shadow, they're mostly straight down. Also, I'm still not really seeing the top down view for some reason, so the more top-down looking structure is still jarring.

Been re-working the sprite yet again to look top-down.

The bird's nest will be fixed up soon. I also may change the brick textures.

Dunno if I should changed the bird next, I feel like it isn't THAT jarring.

That's a step in the right direction but the building still looks a little funny. I'd make the tops of the buildings a bit longer vertically.

Like this? I also changed the pallet to make the garage door stand out more.

Much better. The top two chimney-like structures are a bit off, though. The one on the right for obvious reasons, the one on the left because the top seems like it should be a bit longer.

Dunno if I should remove the bird nest or not... It looks weird.

First of all, I wanted to say that I've enjoyed seeing this piece evolve!
I quite like its current state, too Smile

Here are a few pointers:
1. the shading suggests either light coming from the side, if the brick were convex, or from the top left if concave. The shadow on the other roof suggests the latter, but concave bricks seem strange...
2. feels kind of flat, maybe due to the shape of the curve you've got going; keeping the same curve consistent along the different features (windows, roof, base) will give your front room thing depth.

Keep going! n_n

Long time, no see, thread.

I got bored, and I made Sans, Papyrus, and the Human from Undertale in the style of Mother 3 for the GBA.

Used the colour pallet from the actual game, as I'm trying to keep them GBA-ish sized so they don't look out of place.

I like Papyrus the most, but Frisk looks like an old man. Also the monster kid looks like it has been awake for days.

Edit:

Made a few changes for Frisk, Chara & Monster Kid.
