Final Fantasy 7 Remake.......
#16
I have to say though Kosheh, I like ATB the most over turnbased.

The most important reason is because Speed is actually given a proper purpose. Rather than just gettin the first strike in turn based games like Pokemon, if you've high speed, you can actually out turn your opponents multiple times before they finally get their turn. This gives Speedy characters a much greater purpose.

Next, an additional strategy layer of Charge Time is introduced. Once again, rather than an overly simple charge in one turn, and fire in the next mechanic like in Pokemon, every ability has a certain amount of time it takes to charge and release.. Could be the equivalent of half a turn, could be the equivalent of multiple turns, but ultimately, it requires the player to time when they should or shouldn't cast heavy hitting spells that take a while to charge, because they could be hit multiple times before the casting is complete.

Finally, it makes the battles feel a bit closer to real time. Rather than just "I hit you, then you hit me," just about anything can happen depending on everyone's speed compared to one another, and things like Pre-Emptive Strikes or Ambushes are given a bit more weight.

If there's one thing I can't stand is when people say it feels slow. These are the same people who never enter the options menu, and adjust the battle speed to the fastest setting to maximum results. It takes like 1 second, 2 seconds tops on that setting, for the next character's turn to arrive. At that point they're just overly impatient.

So there's a bonus feature. You can customize how fast the battles play out, such that you can have more reaction time, or as fast as possible if you don't need any. In an RPG I make that utilizes this fighting style, I'd incorporate a battle speed 0 setting, that basically fills up everyone's time in one frame until someone's turn arrives, just to shut the people up who think 1-2 seconds of waiting is "too slow."

I never did understand FF9, like all FF games I played and got everything 'like vivi's magic' It just seems too level dependent with less emphasis on strategy because it was already layed out. Loved 7 and 8 for the placidity, they also had stories I could identify with.

Pretty sure you guys have already heard but it isnt a FF7 remake, it is a full redo some parts of the original story wont make it.

As for FF being generic there is a reason for that, it is the same as Coke Cola, it is the main brand the bar of success.

So it's basically the Curse of the Sinistrals of the Lufia series for the Final Fantasy series.

It's by default a shitty remake now, for completely changing the way the game is played. It may still be a decent game on its own, but as a remake, it already sucks.

This makes me sad. I never did care much for 7, but they don't these characters don't even have the charm the old ones did. They talk so dryly, like its Advent Children. You're in the middle of combat. Have a little emotion. Barrett doesn't even look big in this, just muscular. I don't know if this combat style will be a good or a bad thing, and I don't mind that its different, but there's no charm here.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind action RPG combat. But a remake implies that the foundation would be the same with some additions and minor adjustments and improvements. They could've just called it Final Fantasy 7 Re-Imagined, and no one would complain. Final Fantasies 1, 2 and 4 PSP are remakes. This and Lufia Curse of the Sinistrals are reimaginings.

I'm pretty sure in interviews they have said many many times that there would be a change to the battle system, that they were calling it a reimagining specifically rather than a remake, and that they have said they want to purposefully avoid redoing everything exactly the same because they feel it would feel less impactful.

Whatever the case, I haven't actually seen the video and I don't have any input on whether it is better or worse, but I just wanted to chime in with those points in case anyone was feeling robbed.

There was a progress report back in the summer of them using the same combat system from the original game with the new look and they said it wasn't going to work with the game. No matter what people think remaster remake re-imagine means all it means is that things more often than not are going to be different. I know the work that went into the first iteration trying to remake that from every angle would have been too large a project to tackle in a timely manner.

Realism does that. People forget the further you try to recreate the real the less inviting it is. Sometimes you have to let the mind draw the lines that's part of FF7's charm the blocky characters I'm waiting for the indie crowd to get into the PSX era that era was awesome for games and I wouldn't be surprised if all the best future ideas AAA make came from a 3rd party delving in the realm of N64 and PSX becuase a lot of the limitation is what bred the creative lines that made games like FF7 so memorable.

I guess you're right. If people are going to get upset over technicality then I guess it's fair that people are dissapointed though I should let it be said there is no time to remake a AAA FF7 game people are imagining if Remake is what I'm not understanding what it is. Never. There's no money in that project. Not enough not to sink a company before it's made.

Jenova and SOLDIER therapy never give you visual results Cloud was always a scrawny dude who had some real power (thus the shock o display of strength). We just didn't know it was all him from day one.

IMO, a good "remake" should be something different from the original... because otherwise it's more of an enhanced port. When I see a movie remake, I don't want the same thing that the original was but shinier, because I already have the original (see Robocop).

I will admit disappointment in the lack of turn-based gameplay, though. Obviously a remake shouldn't completely abandon the original structure, and in games that includes core mechanics like RPG combat. What they've done here is make a Kingdom Hearts game set in the story of Final Fantasy.

On the other hand, I really like how they've gone to great lengths to make the world more immersive and engaging to explore.
