simple retro pokémon sprites.

I can't imagine why they don't. Sure, it's tricky to use, but it works well as a poor man's Photoshop. Perhaps most users are either content with MS Paint or they're using something else, such as Photoshop or Paint.Net.

it's ok to suck, sucking is not bad, just try and aim to always do your best!

The mew looks enough like a cat, just not like a mew. His head should be rounder, and his ears need to be smaller.

Some of the best sprites I've seen are 'simple' ones. It's all about style. These just look rather doodley than anything cool. Make your work worth looking at, wow people. Think about what you want to do. At the moment these seem very "here's some stuff for the sake of it" rather than a desire to make something worthy and with passion behind.

Yeah well I've only just begun spriting.
And these look okay to me.
I am bad and that's good. I will never be good and that's not bad. There is no one I would rather be than me.

These look fine to you

Fine

But the point of this subforum is for comments and critique related to Sprites and Pixel Art. I Really don't know how many times this has been said on this forum,
I feel like I've typed this same post dozens of times myself.

You say you are here for advice, but it seems your goal posting here is to show your sprites off and expect praise. If so, you are in the wrong forum entirely.
The purpose here is to evaluate your work and give you solid critique on it, so that you can improve your current work and produce better work in the future.
This is a learning place, not your mom's fridge.

All this said, your sprite choices seem a bit blobular, (literally in the case of ditto) the line work is not very solid here, and the shapes aren't very defined. One problem with that
would be that they are quite small, and while you think that starting small would be easier, It can actually work against you in pixel art.

Pixels aren't like brushstrokes, they have to be placed precisely and with forethought to create a clean convincing image. In your case, I would suggest you find a pokemon you
like with a more defined shape and try pixeling it a bit larger than your previous attempts while paying attention to the actual structure of the sprite.

As for your colours, they are all very similar and lack hue and contrast. That doesn't mean you just move sliders on the colours you have, you need to pick them a little more carefully
to get more out of your palette.

I remember you being here before and I'm sure you've gotten this spiel before, but I felt It bore repeating. You may want to take a look here for more info
on various pixeling terms and techniques. (again, I'm sure you've seen this already, just trying to help)

if they look okay to you, there's not much need to post them here and get feedback. Now, supposing they aren't quite perfect yet...

Don't just think of the major details as some checklist that it just needs everything in there.

Think about forms and masses, how shapes are perceived. Stay away from the geometric primitives. You may not be able to get away from a circle with Voltorb, but you could have him not perfectly facing the camera, etc.

Why did you post 2 of the same image?

missingno, I honestly don't feel like you are even listening to the advice people are giving here, let alone trying to implement any of them or even keep them in mind. You edited your first post with an update, but that is it.

I especially recommend reading Sevenstitch's comment above, he is making some very good points.

Also, read very carefully the SPRITING DICTIONARY sticky thread of this forum. In fact, bookmark it and check back often to remind yourself of the things it shows.

I posted the above picture so you could see what it is that you made, and what a mew looks like. Look at how they are barely even similar. Sprites are symbols, small representations of a larger image. So, it needs to reflect what the key details of the original image are.

Think about the major forms. Specifically think about:
1. how many animals you see with a cylinder torso 1/3 the width of their head
2. the size and shape of mew's feet
3. the shape of mew's head (is it a triangle with ears?)
4. the shape of mew's tail (is the width consistent throughout?)
5. does mew have arms?
6. what color is mew's eyes?

We are trying to help you, but if you aren't taking any of the advice to heart, both us and you are wasting our time here.

I'm not trying to patronize you, I am trying to help you. You are perfectly within your rights to not agree with us, but you should be willing to listen and at least consider what it is that we are trying to explain to you.

Missingno, I like you and you have some good potential, but a lot of people are not very happy with you because you are not following their advice. If you take a careful look over the critique they give you and apply some of it to your work, then there would be less arguments going about in this thread.

Once you get that PC fixed, will you promise us that you'll take all this advice people busted their chops to give you?

Come to think of it, the mew sprite does kind of look like an ancient glyph, you know? I mean, touch it up, make it look less jagged, and I think it could turn into something neat.
