Hey there again Guys!! Thanks again Baegal!!
So.... Here's my new work AGAIN.[Image: EvilRaccoon-6.png]

So I decreased the number of colors from 16 to 10. I changed the color of the goggles to pink because i wanted EvilRaccoon's cheeks to be pink. Is it alright? if not i'll change it again to orange....
I didn't know what i did with the belt....
I also changed the eyes.... IT'S SHINIER Cute
Does it look better?
I'm excited to animate this sprite!! really!!!!!!

Your line art is still too jaggy. I wouldn't really concentrate on colours and shading yet. Also as a character critique I say you really need to give him a snout/muzzle. He looks like a cat/bear with a mask at the moment.
Use references such as Tails (from Sonic), Sly Cooper and well, a Raccoon. Getting his head looking good will make the rest easier as his body seems simple enough.

I'm not trying to be mean, and I'm not trying to scare you off, but in order to improve that sprite, you are going to have to actually remake that
sprite from scratch, instead of making minor changes to the same base over and over.

The current glaring flaw with this sprite is simply anatomy. I know you are just starting out, and It can be tough, but you need
to get a grasp of general concepts so that your work can improve. So far, the only "improvements" have been minor, and haven't
really addressed the real source of the problem. Is the character a raccoon that stands upright, or a humanoid raccoon hybrid?
Either way, It really doesn't look like either. The proportions of all the limbs are strange, or just don't make sense. He has no shoulders,
no knees, no elbows, no neck, no torso... this list goes on but I'll stop there. Limbs have joints, simple as that, and all bodys, human or
otherwise have rules as to how those limbs and joints move.

In addition to what Sevenstitch said; You could try using a skeleton to help you a little bit.

Yeah, I'm just starting and all but I'll try my best to make this happen! Big Grin
Guess I'm gonna have to make time for this sprite but I will try my best!
This is my first attempt at creating my own character so I guess I have to start all over again.
okay...... that's alot of work.....
But, hey! Thanks again and probably this will take me 4-7 days to make!

The problem is you keep changing the design rather than improving what the actual problems are.

Work on the outline before you try to work out colors and shading.

the whole anatomy of that character sprite is off. the pose and the way the limbs are drawn doesnt really give the idea that this thing has a skeleton or that it follows any kind of structure, wich makes it feel like a bunch of shapes tied together.

how could that affect you? if you ever tried a different pose, you'd find yourself having a hard time trying to convey those shapes in a new pose or perspective.

I'm from the Philippines and school is at it's 2nd month....
I'm not sure when I can post or make a new sprite but I'll do my best and I'll find time too!!

OKAY GUYS... IM BACK... still busy and don't expect me to post here like I used to do. School Play in my hands here...
Anyway..... I created EvilRaccoon once again and this time he looks more like a mature raccoon Big Grin
It's not for TFR by the way..... just for fun..... I'm thinking of another character that I can make for TFR... Big Grin

The biggest thing for me when I first started spriting was to take an art style you want to replicate and then copy it. It'll teach you things like style, work flow and colour palette. I copied Megaman X style sprites for a long time and when I tried to make a sprite without any base or reference it was a lot more natural and I had a sense of what I wanted to do (albeit, it was still terrible Tongue)

In regards to your sprite the most important thing to consider when creating a character is its silhouette. Imagine if that sprite you had there was completely black. How easy is it to read/tell what it is? Forget any colour or shading and work primarily with shapes. You can mold the pose and shape your character takes using distinct, flat colours and then once you got the base down you can then consider the light source to dictate shading. The common rule of thumb is that the light source always comes from the upper right hand corner.

I am thinking to add a tail since he is a raccoon. However, he is a humanoid raccoon..... would that be all right to add a tail? and is he's pose alright? BTW those 2 are my works and I didn't seem to get the "replicate the art style" thingy-wingy...... Anyway ,thanks again Kopaka!

there is nothing you should be thankful though.

your sprite is still the same piece of crap. you didn't "fix" anything, all you did was merely redrawing some elements but you still carried the same mistakes fromt he previous version.

i'd reccomend you to do a small research on a basic tutorial about shading and lightsources. study some sprites, and analyze them. maybe you're too eager to get "good", but spriting and pixel art in general is a process that requires a lot of effort and practice in order to progress.

No worries, EvilRaccoon. Adding a tail will be fine, I think will be add strongly to the overall look of the character and communicate to the audience that this is indeed a hybrid human-animal you see before you.

What Meta says in regards that spiriting and pixel art in general is a process that takes a lot of effort and practice to get good is true, however that's what this forum is for. So long as you take in the constructive feedback the people provide to you and then apply it to your work, as well as learning WHY you're doing it, then you'll definitely improve leaps and bounds. If anything I'd be glad to help out if you have any questions you want to shoot my way.
