Super Mario Bros 2012 Doomsday

To be honest, the Wart battle looked like fun.

But I guess we can keep beating the shit out of him for trying, that's okay too.

its still another terrible SMW with sprites hacked into the screen.

i dotn see how a plot would make it any more different than you know

playing the original SMW.

GOOD! I'm glad.

And I'll be honest, it really is unfair to judge the entire game before I even released it. Sure I posted that video, but maybe play it first when I release it, then tell me if the gameplay is worth it... the graphics may not convince you or the video, but the gameplay might change your mind.

If not then have a nice day. Cute

By the way, did I mention I might add a multiplayer mode? That would be a fun feature. It's only an idea. Not saying it's gonna happen.

Since fangames like this always seem to have a problem with sprites clashing..
you should try your best to find the characters that you are looking all in the same style to avoid that problem. In this case, it'd be SMW style.

Just by browsing around, I found a pretty good Wart in SMW style.
Sure, gameplay is great and all, but clashing sprites do get old(from what I've seen other people say, it could be said alot better).
Just take what I said into consideration and your game will look more pleasing, thus gaining more attention.

Dude, its too early to make a judgement call to see if this game is a SMW clone or not. I doubt they made any progress since the engine coder (Supernova, aka Saturn) left for Fort Jackson months ago and just recently returned. I would wait till they promote this game more via videos, more screenshots of the latter world and a demo so that a reasonable judgement call can be made.

Edit: Someone beated me to it. I blame my situation in real-life.

A top-notch Mario fangame in the works.

*shows screens that looks like they came out straight from SMW*
*claims it isn't a SMW clone*
you might be right. but then be more convincing, show us how this game is different from the other 352114837599 mario fangames in the net.

You know, this has always confused me. If you take the time and effort to design and program a complete custom system for a game,
why would you use existing assets from another game, instead of using custom assets? Why does it need to be a "mario" game at all?
Can't it be an original title, with homages to the mario series instead?

I'm just saying, the reasons most look down on fangames have all been stated in this thread, and they are all valid. I love mario bros,
and i love playing mario bros, but if I want to play mario bros, ill boot up my wii, and play mario bros. I've never felt the need to play
a mario bros game not made by nintendo.

I know there are a wealth of Mario assets out there, and they cut down development (and creative design) time, but they can only be
used to make the games they come from. If you use them, you now have to work around the assets, instead of with them, so that
they fit what is essentially a different game than mario bros. Using your own custom assets, even if they are custom Mario assets,
makes the game fresh and new, and entices more to try it. It allows for new a new experience that may have not yet been had.

I'm not telling you to stop making this game, not at all. If its what you want to do, then by all means do it. Most here are very critical
of this, and every other "fangame", and take pride in that fact. The projects they endeavor are completely custom, and every bit their
own. That's pretty much the point here. Your game, while you seem to be putting a real effort into it, will still only be recieved as a
copy-cat fangame, and nothing else, at least here.

SHORT VERSION:
1. I love mario, but not mario cut+paste.
2. Custom game engines deserve custom content, in order to truly be a unique and custom game.
3. Consider endeavoring to create something beyond the mario universe.
4. Best of luck, but don't expect encouragement from this forum for this current project.

Ok, I have a better idea. Why don't I just come back in 7 months with the newest and possibly final screenshots for the games final release, with more custom features, and more levels?

Because all I really see coming out of this topic is people just judging by how similar it is to Super Mario World. If I could hurry up and release this demo, I'm sure that wouldn't change anyones opinions much, but consider that it's not Hello's Engine and its the first fangame ever to be made with Supernova's engine. This could just be a Super Mario World hack and not a fangame at all, but who will really know until I release it? If people here think its just another SMW, go ahead and believe that, but I tell you it's really a fangame. Now, can someone close this topic? It's clear that it's too early to showcase it.

I'll just release the first demo, and I'll continue the project and showcase it here when its farther near its completion.
