Yeah, tracing isn't a good idea.

Yeah.. I learned that the hard way.
I'm thinking the best sprites I've made recently are probably the ones I made for TFR.

I still have a few things to add to the top sprite (arm movement, mainly.)

the legs should have a bit of a bigger parting to make room for a pelvis, it looks like he has no ass

A new sprite I made in honor of (one of the) best game(s) in the universe. Pit from Kid Icarus Uprising.

I think he's slightly leaning backwards.
The golden decals blend with his skin.
The cloth around his arm looks weird, maybe because it's all white but the body below is strongly shaded.

A sprite I made of the Galactic Fiend Kraken, from Kid Icarus Uprising. Hopefully it's in an 8-bit style (tell me if I'm breaking any 8-bit rules or anything lol). Pit and Palutena are there for size reference.

Well, if you were going with NES 8-bit, the kraken would have too many colors.(And it seems it's for that system's color style.)

Well I have it split into pieces, and each piece has 3 colors (black being the background color. Palutena does the same thing in her sprite).

Do you really need two low-contrast greens for the eye?
I also think you could make the eye slightly less jaggy.

Don't ask me if the NES would actually support so many sprites this would require.

It couldnt, since the NES can only display a maximum of 64 sprites (either 8x8 or 8x16px) on the screen at once (and 8 per scanline)
And that kraken thingy looks like it got a lot more sprites going on at the moment.

HOWEVER, bosses of that size can easily done by using tiles, which only restricts the amount of palettes you can use. (4 palettes with 3colors+1 background color, which is the same across all palettes)
A game that does this trick pretty well is "Totally Rad", might wanna check out how the stuff is done in that game.

C&C wise I've got nothing to add, since Previous already said what I was going to say.

The Totally Rad enemies/bosses look a lot like what I'm trying to do. I piece different parts with different colors together and use a singular background color!

I always seem to double post. Whatever.

I'll work on the Kraken later, I promise Cry

But for now have a Batman

The difference is that the Totally Rad bosses fit everything together in exact squares, while yours have overlapping sprites. Take a closer look.
