Portal 2 is offensive! I want my money back!

Quote:Best way to not offend people: don't make anything at all.

Second best: make everything HAPPY and don't say anything that is not HAPPY, because not HAPPY things can be offensive.

I think it has to do with popularity. The more popular something is, the more likely someone will complain about something.

Let's take a look at MadWorld. That game makes rape jokes... yes rape jokes, and yet I haven't heard anyone complain. Why? Barely anyone played the game. However I remember people bitching about Pokemon of all things! And Harry Potter too. Oh and remember when Rock and Roll was the devil's music?

I don't really see it as offensive, but I honestly didn't like GLaDOS' weight jokes, except for the "I will just lower the ceiling" one. It's a pretty lame insult, especially compared to the rest of her excellent lines, and got old quickly.

And also, y'know, the fact that it was hilariously violent and clearly marketed to adults who like violent/edgier games.

Yeah I was about to say, all those things, except rock, were marketed for everyone, while Mad World was strictly adult. When one person doesn't like something in an "everyone" game (which as we know someone will find something), this happens.

Concerned Father: Claims the game is rated E when it's E10+, calls it education and bitches about the fact it's has jokes and innuendos kids won't catch on to that quickly.

I'm sorry, but is there something I'm missing here? it's like people assume that the ratings are only based on the letters ESRB puts up.

People were offended by weight jokes... Really?
i'm pretty sure at least 90% of fat people's weight can be faulted to themselves.
It's not like it's something they can't help (Most of the time)
If you take in more calories than you burn off, you put on weight.
And nobody can say ''there's nothing wrong with being fat!'' There is. It's unhealthy and it's preventable with a proper diet and exercise.

Seriously, if i was Valve right now i'd just send a big fat fuck you to everyone who complains.
Because right now i'm struggling to think of a way that glados/wheatley could of made fun of you without offending someone out there.

Oh and @Zeemort.
I'm sorry but the literal definition of a word is not is not always what the word means.
I think it's pretty commonly accepted that moran now just means 'stupid' or 'dim-whitted'
Words change in meaning over time. And they're also changed by the context they're used in.

...Still trying to think of an insult that wouldn't offend anyone.
Nope. Can't do it.

A Koopaul Post.

But seriously, you're way off-base here. MadWorld is incredibly vulgar, but at the same time it made incredibly clear that it was. It was an 18. It had blood on the cover and parental warnings on the back. IIRC even when booting up the game it makes a point to tell you that this isn't a kid's game.

On the other hand Portal, while meaning well, brings up some more grown-up concepts that maybe the ESRB hasn't picked up on. And it culminated in an unfortunate circumstance here. No, I don't think that Valve was wrong for including it for characterisation's sake; but I definitely empathise with the dad for being upset. He might not have handled it in the best way, but no one in this really needs to be demonised.

Except maybe the Kotaku writer for trying to make a bigger deal out of it.

Oh, really? Please show your statistical data, correcting for clustering.

... don't you smoke?

People can do whatever the fuck they like with their bodies and they shouldn't be shamed for it. How does it affect you that I'm overweight?

Also again: STRAW MEN ALL UP IN HERE.
I didn't say to use insults that offend nobody
that would negate the point of an insult
but an insult that reinforces the idea that certain minorities are wrong and worthy of insult is worse; you're not just insulting that one person, you're insulting absolutely everyone who belongs to that minority. It's about exerting power over an underprivileged group.
A word's history doesn't stop existing, because there's a root cause for its usage as an insult. In the case of moron it's feeding into the idea that being someone with a disability is something worthy of insult.

Feel free to call me a whiny piece of shit. Call me a whiny fat mental piece of shit, and you're being a bigot.

Not to mention that losing weight is actually pretty hard even if you're really trying at it.

Yes. And i and pretty much every other smoker in the world are aware that it's unhealthy. You don't see us being offended by people complaining about how fucking bad it is, because we already know.

I don't hear ''smoking gives you cancer'' or ''smoking makes you look cheap'' on tv and go ''omg thats totally not fair! I can't help smoking! how insulting!''

Yes, people have the right to be fat if they want to, and if they like being fat, they:
A. Shouldn't be offended. (See what i said about smokers)
B. Should be prepared to accept that the reason it isn't seen as glamorous is because it's bad for you. And as statistics show, it isn't generally seen as attractive.

If i'm wearing a wacky hat on my head that i think is really cool. And somebody says to me ''Hey that hat looks god damn ridiculous''
If i truly liked the hat i wouldn't be offended or inclined to stop wearing the hat.

And for the record, i can't say I've met you, but, If facebook photos are anything to go by, you aren't even close to being fat.

Y'know i don't know any exact statistics. And i don't have the patience to look it up either. But c'mon conditions that make you unable to lose weight are far less common than overweight people.
If anything 90% was a generous estimate.

How do i not know the meaning of it?
A bigot is someone unable to budge on their opinion.
Most of the stuff me and zeemort have said is opinion based. Therefore:
Nothing she has said is any more factual than what i have said
States we're both arguing opinions rather than facts.

What is wrong with this???

Zeemort said some people may want to be like that.

So they shouldn't be offended when other people make fun of it.

I don't see any problem with the analogy.
I maybe shouldn't have used the word 'wacky' though.
I just happen to like wacky hats.
