Ripping Questions
It's because the NES (and by extension, the Famicom and Famicom Disk System) doesn't have or use an actual palette, which is why most NES emulators have an option to upload a custom one (I don't know specifics). It's hard to say what the appropriate palette should be, although I might build one using the VS palette and see if that looks good.

Doofenshmirtz: This is a little bit awkward but have you seen my escape jet keys? (Perry nods) What, you have? Well that's great! So where are they? (Perry looks away) You won't tell me? Is this because you don't speak or are you just being a jerk?

So when I go to rip NES sprites, should I just rip them using the colors that look best to me? Kind of strange that the exact palettes don't emulate like other platforms do.

Too bad I don't have an NES with the game or I could get an idea of what the real colors should be. Tongue

You can try this, it's based on the VS palette: http://tgtrans.pbworks.com/w/file/40409242/vs.pal

I'll make one based on the hex listed from the link I posted in the previous post.

OK, I just loaded the palette you linked to into both emulators (of course they turned out the same), but everything came out shaded in this ugly yellow color.

I'm not sure if it's supposed to look like that, but I guess it is. I'm probably just used to the prettier colors it had before.

EDIT: Maybe ATLUS didn't want people stealing their sprites back then? Was sprite ripping even possible back then?

Most protection mechanisms were to protect against people making bootleg boards and/or to prevent "conversion kits" (see Ms. Pac-Man).

Here is the other one, although there might only be a subtle difference.

Not a very subtle change! Perfect! It's beautiful, thank you so much! I knew this game was supposed to look nice. Smile Hope this may help other people too.

I'm trying to find this Animget program to do some DS ripping, but the links I see in this thread don't work. Google seems to point to the same broken link. Anyone know a mirror or alternate source for it?

Hi again, my friend had ripped BGs for Kid Icarus 2 (NES) and when he saved it in MS Paint, it turned into this... and it took him 2 hours...

Would anyone know why this happened? Because it made him sad... He said it was too big for MS Paint so he saved it and was going to load it into Paint.NET.

He was also wondering if there was an easier way to rip them... I wonder if tilesets would be possible... but then I know nothing about the game.

EDIT: Actually nevermind, he got it sorted out.

What was the problem?

Well I was wondering why Paint.Net (it wasn't MS Paint he just told me) was glitching my friend's sheet after he saved it (it was really big), and he asked me how I ripped from Nestopia, but I've never ripped an NES BG. But I was also wondering if there was some easier way to rip the BGs so I could tell him, though I think he started over or something and is almost done with it now again. So I'm sorry for making a useless post back there.

Update to the Pocket God files
Still have no clue how to work these. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry to double post, but here are files from Pac-Pix, a game I've greatly wanted to rip from:

Yeah it's me, spamming up this thread again. <=x

This time I have a sort of a dumb question, I've looked through the options for ZSNES and I can't find where I can use the backwards FPS. As in, I have it set so I can go forward frame by frame, but I dunno how to go backwards each frame (I guess SNES can do that?), I didn't see anything about it anywhere. Also Google or the official site didn't help.

Thanks, I know I've posted here a lot (but thanks to the help I got for the NES issue I got two sheets done! Big Grin).

EDIT: Nevermind, said feature doesn't exist I just learned.

Instead, is there a way I can fix the black BG when I turn off the BG layer?
