Final Fantasy XIII

Layle could be a better character if the game had an actual combat system. Other than that, the game is fine.

I'm currently playing 12 just for the sack of completing all FF (minus FF11, being online and all). And I'm hating it. Some games get better after some 15 hours into gameplay, but right now every time I play or I want to laugh because of the dialogue (it takes itself too seriously and try to do a shakesperian thingie...It quite don't work. Not to mention the sound recording was awful) or be bored to death with the dull combat system, dull dungeon and cliche story with uncharismatic characters. The only character that's worth some attention is Balthier, but he also sounds too cheesy. (oh, and I'm right at the middle of the game, just got to Archades or whatever the capital of the Empire is called)

Now I got a new room mate and he got a PS3, so we might rent or buy FF13 someday, but right now...
FFI GBA/PSP got some retcons that explains a little more of the story (but not much). I'd recommend the PSP version because it got an extra dungeon then the GBA one. The PS1 normal difficulty is almost as painful than the NES (but still easier)
FFII got a great story and nice characters, the combat system is a good idea on paper, but in reality is a pain to deal with. And the GBA/PSP version is far easier than the NES/PS1 version (yeah, the PS1 is mostly untouched). The extra dungeon from GBA/PSP gives a little more content, but it conflicts with some stuff from Dissidia.
FFIII DS is better then the original because the characters aren't so anonymous (too cliche, but they work. Refia is a pain in the rear, too annoying), but it takes too much to get to the good part.
FFIV is one of my favorites. My favorite version is the GBA one, you can chose your final party between Cecil, Rosa, Kain, Rydia and Edge from the original, and Cid, Yang, Edward, Palom and Porom. There's also one extra dungeon available only after beating the game. The DS one got those new mini-games and improvements to the battle system, and some extra scenes like Cecil's birth and some scenes featuring Cecil, Rosa and Kain's childhood.
FFV is a fun game, the best version is the GBA one. I would love to see a DS remake, or even a PSP remake. Fun to play, got a nice job system, solid story and many funny moments.
FFVI I don't like it. It takes too much to get to the best part (around 30 hours until the story really begins), I don't like most of the playable characters and I think that it could be a little more colorful. But Ultros rox and Kefka is a great villain.
FFVII... Cloud is the worst protagonist ever. Dull character, bad party leader. It would be a great game if Zack was the main character (just check out Crisis Core) and Sephiroth could be a little better explored (like they did in Crisis Core). And I really hate Aerith. Those damsel in distress type usually annoys me. The party itself aren't really "friends" until she dies, they are only hanging out together because they got a common enemy and that's all. Her death was forced but necessary to get the plot going or it would cold down midway the game. Not a bad game, but overrated IMO. Oh! And the chocobo breeding SUCKS
FFVIII is my favorite. Is one of those games that if you don't pay attention to the plot or explore you're not going to understand a thing. All characters have a reason for being there and there's actually an explanation for the Draw system (they don't use real magic). Too bad we don't have a real explanation on why Ultimecia do what she does and what on the hell are the GF.
FFIX is a good game, but the characters don't attract me. I don't know. And I wish I could see the first version, where they use the summons as jobs. It got a solid story and many cool references
FFX got a deep story but Tidus at the beginning of the game can be annoying. We can see some character growth during it. Other than that, I wish it had regular level up along the sphere grid system. And shot Rikku in the head. FFX-2 if it was less J-Pop and WAY less girl-power/pajama party it would be a good game too.
FFXII...Well, just talked about it.

The Tactics games are great, but A2 last boss is a little bit of a cheater. And the Crystal Chronicles series got good stories but some of the DS dungeons are annoying, specially Ring of Fate and Echoes of Time last dungeons.

Ahahahah Shawn :p Like I said, it's my opinion. I don't know why but I don't like most of the playable FFVI characters, the only ones I really liked were Locke and Shadow, and that's all (not to mention Mog, but he's an entire other class). None of them appeal to me in any way.
FFVIII the only drawback (no pun) is the orphanage thing. That was forced, other than that, all the personalities were well done and every character had a portion on the story, a part that no other character could replace.
FFIX... I think that Eiko is annoying, not cute; Amarant could use a better background and all the others or I really don't mind them or they are too cliche (specially Dagger)

Btw, BJ ownz

Did anyone see Destructoid's review of this game?

They gave it a 4/10. There's probably a shitstorm going on in the review comments...
NOPE.
