because even we're aware there are idiots who claim they do learn guitar by playing guitar hero, most of the people just play for the heck of the fun this game delivers when played together with friends.

True, but my problem is with pretending is that over time it gets boring as hell.

Sure, it's fun at first. but when you happen to do it every time you go over a friends house it just goes downhill.

Grooveman.exe Wrote:So uh, I'm not actually sure what you're whinging about here. That the peripherals are expensive? Not really - with the exception of the new Pro Instruments for Rock Band 3 (a series with fewer sequels anyway); the periphs are pretty cheap these days. Even the DJ Hero controller. I got DJH1&2 bundled with the controller for £60 the other day.

When did I ever mention that the peripherals are expensive

Are you bemoaning that your friends don't want to start up a band with you? Way to sound embittered.

Yes, because clearly I want to start a band

Are you lamenting that a popular games series has a lot of sequels? Well that's just silly.

Camo Wrote:Hey guys.

Rhythm games are just for fun. I love to play Rock Band when I have all my school work done and there's nothing else on my schedule. It's just one of those games that never got old for me, perhaps due to my genuine love of music. Naturally, when I see someone scold the series because it supposedly distracts us from playing a "real" instrument, I can't help but feel some annoyance. I shouldn't have to be told how to live my life; I won't tell you how to live yours. Ultimately, the main reason I don't bother to learn a real instrument is I don't want to. Learning a real instrument takes a lot of practice and determination, and when I'm looking for a way to escape the stress of school and work, that doesn't sound the least bit appealing.

I'm not saying that it distracts anyone, nor am I forcing anyone. but my point is at least give the real thing a go as a suggeustion. It won't hurt to try, and it's not like it will kill you.

I can understand where someone wouldn't want to try it out, I'm fine with that. But whenever I see someone who believes they can get everything out of something like Rockband alone, then that's just plain funny. Sure, games like Guitar Hero and Rockband easily expand the library of bands you like (which, is actually the only thing I like about the two games). And you can do it to relieve stress. But otherwise, you won't get much out of the games alone.

And a real instrument won't be to stressful as long as you try to have fun with it. Just wanting to point that out.

Have you not ever considered that games were made for the precise purpose of doing thing you can't do in real life?

"Fuck you guys, I am gonna learn how to do the Rom infinite in real life, then i will learn the 5 fierce combo. Why do it on screen when you can do this in real life."
This very argument can be applied to people who watch television. Be we all know how well that turned out. *cough*

The people who truly want to learn the guitar will do it. What do you think that future rockers will honestly be playing guitar hero instead of getting some lessons? Why would someone want to learn an instrument that won't benefit them in any way whatsoever?

Years of practice with guitar to play with friends even though that close to everyone who plays guitar hero does not have being a rock star on their list of priorities> 30 min of fun with friends pretending?
