lavander town syndrome/lavander tone

my friend and i have OLD green versions (Black cartridge), we're trying this out atm.

so far significant differences are:

professor says "My name is PROFESSOR OAK, but you can call me AOCHIDE."
in the PC, theres a "RUNE CURE." (potion?)
we had to soft reset our games b/c game froze, and now all sprites are just black boxes

If it doesn't work on the black carterage then we need to get a hold of a gray one and try it on that just to be certain.
