You remember when the Wii was just coming on the market? Nintendo's mantra for the device, according the the late Iwata, was to "create a device even mothers would want to play". Their advertisements would show everyone from young children to parents to even the elderly playing the console. It was clearly being marketed as a device for everybody ... which was a marketing plan that really worked out for them.
So I find it a bit interesting that this new device seems to be specifically being marketed to young adults. Everyone shown playing the device in the video appears to be between the age of 18-25. There's no kids, no teens, no parents.
I find this particularly odd because ... this device seems perfect for today's children specifically. I don't know how much you guys pay attention to the little kids around you, but portable tablet style gaming is all the rage amongst that demographic. I always see kids constantly distracted by them while out and about shopping with their parents or going to fast food restaurants or whatever. Even at home kids these days tend to choose using tablets over playing games on TVs or PCs. So why aren't they targeting them at all with the portable aspect of this device?
I'm not trying to complain or anything ... it just struck me as weird strategically.
One way to think about this is that, often, children don't seem to want something made FOR children. They'll want something that teenagers/young adults enjoy (hence why so many flock to Xbox and Playstation more and more). So not only is Nintendo kinda implying a bigger reach-out to their older "core" audience by showing young adults in the reveal, they'll be potentially appealing to the children more easily.

I'm not sure that logic actually applies in the marketing world. If you've ever taken an advertising class of any kind, you'd know that the number one rule is that you want to use people in your commercials that represent the demographic your product is targeted at. If the entire commercial followed one player around it would be understandable, but since they showed multiple throughout the video they are kind of breaking this rule.
This is especially true if your target demographic includes children, not to appeal to children specifically, but because parents want to see evidence that the product is meant for children to enjoy, even if they are not conscious of this desire.
Seriously if you ever have a chance to sit in on an advertising class or seminar I would highly recommend it. Especially one that talks about customer psychology. It's kind of like learning how to see the Matrix.

I'd suggest the entire video is an appeal to the young adults who frequent message boards and gaming news websites. The demographic who has been loudest in criticizing the Wii U.

You know, when you put it like that, it makes way more sense. I'm going to call that mystery solved.

Worked for me. So, good job I guess?
Though with the Wii U, I have no idea who that was aimed for...

Here we have it: finally, after a few weeks of denial, Nintendo admits once and for all that WiiU production is ending.

I probably should get my controller fixed before repairs end. But still kinda strange they're doing it, as we're not up to next gen yet.
PS4 and XB1 are not that old, and it'll be a while until their successors get announced.

I'd be careful with any of these "price revealed" articles; most of the "evidence" tends to be stuff like this, taking placeholder prices from various websites, and sometimes removed afterwards.

More rumours...

They've been pretty good with being right with the whole Switch thing, so could be more true than it is false...

I hope that the rumor about the Splatoon pack-in version is true, because I love Splatoon so much and really want the new one.

I'm wondering if they're going to make a new handheld along with the switch, or would that be too soon?

much like previous nintendo handhelds, the 3ds has plenty of staying power, so i imagine there being another upgrade in the hardware soon enough.
