GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!)
Well bad marketing won't help its case, especially when it got as much money as it did. People would've expected the overflow to help in that department, and since it clearly didn't, that's adds to the skepticism.

When the proof of concept screenshots look far far better than the final product - well, no one seems to be gloating they preordered it now do they?

That's why I said it's best to include a free playable demo like Cross Code did too, for example. Then there are no surprises. They'll know exactly what kind of quality and polish to expect from the final product, at least if the devs put as much heart into the public demo as they would the final product. I know I would, because you only get one chance to make an impression. You'd want to show them your best, I feel. Concept art is one thing, but execution is another.

But Kickstarter allows someone to ask for money for nothing. And if what you get isn't what you expected then your money is still gone.

I'm not saying nothing good has ever come from Kickstarter (Shovel Knight is awesome) but Kickstarter itself isn't really the glorious dream machine it wants to be.

Overall impressions of MN9's gameplay haven't been exactly peachy either.

i personally think the gameplay overall looks fun and simple. i would honestly play a demo if they had one out in the open. but i suppose its moreso the many delays and recent trailer that made most fans question their supporting of the kickstarter.

Eh, I see this as a good thing. PS4 and XBone were eclipsed way too quickly, and Nintendo probably doesn't want another Wii U.

Making sure everything's all primed and in place before jumping in... sounds like a good strategy, alright.

Also, I guess this answers whether or not Nintendo would try their hand at this virtual reality shebang again(As in, anytime this century.). This oughta be interesting.

NES demake of The Witness. Would play it but I think I'll wait until I've played the original.

Something about those graphics is very offputting. Maybe it's the way the bushes and trees look. I...hope it doesn't look like that by the end if they ever finish this; looks like a children's coloring book.

Well it's a NES demake, and it is free, after all. I'm pretty sure it was just a neat programming project to do, and to add some of his own puzzles, rather than actually making something that looks good. The original game looks amazing (would recommend checking it out), but that was polished over a number of years; this is just a small tribute made over 2 months.

I get your point though, I just think it's cool that it exists, so I'm not complaining.

Bleh, that doesn't really look like an NES demake. Not a quality one at least. The lack of attempting to put any detail at all into the grass and bushes and stuff make it look more like an old DOS game.

I was going to compare it to the original King's Quest but I think KQ actually looks much better in comparison.

I don't think the graphics are what's supposed to be the selling point. I think it's moreso as a proof of concept to say "Hey look, I managed to write an NES demake of The Witness and get things to actually work" - and that's impressive, especially if it's written in ASM or something. Like, I think that's the entire selling point of this project. It looks like a one-man project so far - like this guy's a programmer first and pixelartist second.

I mean, if you're willing to help him spruce up his game a bit while keeping a general aesthetic that both works on the NES and stays true to The Witness, I'm sure he'd be more than happy to have you on board. This IS a spriting forum and that's our forte, isn't it? Wink
