Super Mario Bros custom tileset
#16
one thing that could be improved is contrast
I could see that you did try to shade it, but the difference in colors is a little hard to notice.

also, mario does have a little bit of fat on him, the chest shouldn't be on the same line as the stomach with the way the sprite is positioned

I made Mario as fat as I could without making him incredibly obese. If I made Mario any fatter, the animations would look funny.

(It is getting close to impossible to make all of you happy. That just had to be shared. I really don't know what else to do to be honest)

We aren't trying to be mean, we all just want to see you grow as a spriter.
All we're trying to do is suggest possible ways to improve the sprites as a way to help, we aren't telling you what to do, it's your sprite.

Much of this forum is about learning more about spriting, and much of the experience comes through criticism from others. It's all just part of the process

and with what I was saying with the sprites and mario's stomach, I took a closer look, and it just seems that I was a bit mistaken about what I said... but in my opinion there still needs to be a bit more contrast with the shades

Didn't I just say not to give up? :/

I'm focusing my attention on something else so I can release some stress. I'm not giving up on them though, I'm just getting the enemy sprites done first. I hope you understand Smile

it takes time to get better at something, and it's never a good idea to push yourself too hard. so let's give him a bit of a break, Novally. humans, especially Mario and Luigi are actually very challenging to sprite especially for a beginner. working on something more within his range would be the best idea.

I agree completely. I just thought he needed some motivation. I didn't want it to look like people's comments were discouraging him.

I hope you start on a Goomba. Those are fun to make and great for beginners because of their simple design.

I did my best to follow one guy's suggestions based on the colors, so they aren't extremely bright

it's not a bad sprite sheet Smile

there are some things that could be improved, but the thing I really notice is the lakitu.
the cloud looks a bit square, you don't really notice the glasses/goggles, and the head could use a bit of work.

also, I see there is some shading on some things, but for the most part it isn't visible, contrast could be worked on a little bit

doing good so far though Big Grin

These has extremely low contrast. This applies to every single one of these sprites. The outline of most of these are really messy. That Lakitu is unreadable. I found it it was a Lakitu because of Epic. Some of these sprites are look really squished. The goomba's are pretty good, but have messy outlines, poor shading, and low contrast. I see that the color choices are poor too.

To be honest it looks like these sprites were made off of memory instead of actual photo references.

actually the colors are too dark and dull -- they should be lightened a by good amount. we'll let you know if they're eye-bleeding. Big Grin

The thing on his face are his goggles. Are you saying I should make them bigger? Also, I will add a bit more dimension to the cloud, and make the shading more visible, and making the base colors a bit brighter.

Well, That's what I did for most of them except for the cheep-cheep. but, I'll work on editing them right away
