Okay here is Acorn/Nuts.
I started to attempt to add the top's texture detail but because of the lack of an idea of how to do it and proper colors it literally just looked like a bunch of dithering lol.
I also made a slightly smaller version since I tend to make things too big.
BTW, do you guys prefer the eyes on the top, middle or bottom to the right? I myself prefer the top ones because they look more expressive but the small white highlight I added in the bottom-left doesn't show much since it's directly on the lighter green shade and that was the best place for it based on the image reference.
Also, I edited the Jinjos a bit.
One of the most major changes I made was moving the heads back by one pixel because the way they were leaning forward looked stiff and uncomfortable/unnatural to me. I also rounded out the bottom-right corner of the belly since it looked too pointy IMO. I also modified the color of the belly anti-aliasing of the Blue, Yellow and White Jinjos to look a bit better. What do you guys think of everything?

I think you should make the acorn just a little more pointy at the bottom. And did you forget the stem at the top? Oh, and I like the middle eyes better.
"(Stem? There is no stem! *looks closer* ...gfghjhj WELP COULDN'T SEE IT ON THE DARK BACKGROUND)"
But yeah I'll see what I can do about the point on the bottom. But do you like the smaller or larger one better?

Larger, but try and give the top part more texture.
DOUBLE POSTIN'.
Fixed Acorn.
EDIT: A.J.: Whoops guess I didn't fix it. I'll see what I can do (again).
DOUBLE POSTIN' (for real ).
Fixed Acorn again (I think).
Because of just plain not having the right colors I cannot do the details without using black. IDK if that harms the outline, but it seems to look decent to me. On the bottom, the left set uses grey, which looks bad, and the right uses black and has extra shading. The top kinda looks like a pine cone now but its texture detailing is basically just a bunch of diamonds so. What do you guys think now?
EDIT: Also, I have to ask, for enemies like Snippits, whose arms or other body parts would almost completely cover them at the style's perspective, what should be done about it?

Acorn 3 looks fine, but that's just me.. As for your question about the Snippits, I guess just use your imagination.
I like no. 3 too. Also I don't have much of an imagination.
I'm not sure whether to make him taller so that his claws can stay low to the ground or what. Or just lower his arms but that might look strange.
Acorn 2 and 4 are identical(?) to 1 and 3. But alas, I go with threeie as well.

Yo should probably compare them to the current sprites to see which one matches the style the best.
@Gaia: If you loook closely there is a slight color difference.
They are the same except for 2 and 4 being one pixel shorter, in case I made it too big like I usually do.

I'm pretty sure there's only two sprites we're supposed to compare.
The first two look like a jiggling animation, and the second set is the same with a higher contrast palette.
As far as choosing between the two, have you thought of only using the black outline in the darker portion of the cap?

That I have, but like I said before, I don't have the right colors, so I'm unable to make the texture stand out enough in the lighter shaded area as you can see:
Plus I have to get rid of the AA and shading I had placed in the lighter area.

The eyes still seem strange. Remember, you don't have to be completely accurate to the model, change things to make the overall sprite look better too.
Okay eyes no. 2 then? I think I like those more now comparing them to the original eyes again.
And to prevent any future confusion, even though I've explained it already, I labeled which one is the original, taller version, and which is the one I made a pixel shorter in case I made it too big again.
