Uh, yeah. That's my point. Eggman is his 'nickname' in SA1, because that's the point where the JP and English backstories were made parallel. 'Robotnik' didn't vanish, because that would have been so much harder to retcon...
Besides in the early US Sonic games, Robotnik was the nickname, and his real name was Dr. Kintobor.

Robotnik. Kintobor. That's... great. That's great, SEGA. You're all so witty.

Yeah. Sega USA was badass. You can thank Archie Comics for letting it become ingrained. =D

I was gonna post about Ivo Kintobor being his real name but I remember that he appeared in the comics as well and I couldn't remember if that was his original game name or not.
anyway IIRC his name was Ivo Kintobor before he became evil then went to Robotnik then Eggman.
Right?
His name is Eggman. Please. Needless discussion is needless.

Eggman is called Eggman because he's not worthy of "Robotnik", "Kintobor" is jacked up, and he is shaped like an egg.
But seriously, how did this discussion of a Sonic move change to a debate of Eggman's name?
