OK, well, just entirely out of curiosity, how do you put textures that people have ripped onto models? They kinda just look like flat graphics. Can you select them and put them in your model program or something? I always wondered how that worked (though that's probably mostly used for custom models huh).

Rigging is pretty much assigning "Bones" to the vertices of a model. This is what give you a "Skeleton" which you are then able to position it however you want.

Assigning textures goes basically about how you said it. There's more to it than that when you're making a model, but generally you won't be messing with how the texture is drawn onto a model if you're dealing with rips.

Cool, I'm learning things!
The first time I try I'll probably go for a Wii game (not sure when that'll be though). Thanks everyone I'm now actually feeling encouraged to try working with models! I had originally assumed that models were all about complex numbers and doing a bunch of long and winding maneuvers, and just kind of thought it'd be too complicated for me.
EDIT: I plan to try Bomberman Land Wii when I get to it. So I guess I would just extract the model with Dolphin? After that, what would I do, open it in a model program and fix it up (not that I know anything about that) then submit it?

I can't say for sure that one would work, but a whole bunch of Wii games do use the same format. If it doesn't use the usual Wii format than you still have the option of using 3d Ripper DX like I mentioned for Bomberman Jetters.

So even if they aren't rigged and can't do much with them you'll still accept them, right? Someone could probably use them for something.

Yeah, people can rig them their own way if they choose, and insert them into a game, MMD, or something.

personally i'm not a fan of rigging left in the models,
like all of the bioshock 2 and Tron Legacy models i've been working with have their rigging intact and i have to remove it before i convert it...otherwise all of the models come out with white or black 5 inch claws

Well you have to consider that some games are completely impossible to rip with their rigging intact unless you feel like programming a converter yourself. A whole lot of the models people can only be ripped with things like 3D Ripper DX and so its simply impossible to get rigs for them. Its obviously nice if its possible, but it really shouldn't be expected.

Does anyone know how to rip models from the game Samba de Amigo and the best software to use?

If you mean the Wii version than you'll probably want to use Dolphin and 3D Ripper DX or 3D Via. If you're talking about the Dreamcast version, it *may* use .nj models which can probably be converted, but I haven't checked it so I have no idea. If the Dreamcast version doesn't use those than you'll have a lot of problems with it.

Thanks for the helpful info. Guess I better start saving my money. And I'll go with the Wii version, since that one is the most recent.

Saving your money? Why would you need to do that? None of the things I mention cost anything.

Samba de Amigo for WII has the mdl0 model format. You will need Wiiscrubber or Dolphin to extract the files from the iso and BRRES Viewer to view and extract the models to .psk.
For the Samba de Amigo models, if you want 'em right away, lemme know and I'll send 'em to you.
