except that having it 3/4 would make you see more of their back when you flip them

And by flip do you mean turn around? But I thought we were just mirroring the sprite and then maybe changing things for some characters, thus not seeing their back?

Well Koopaul, my other idea for the shield would be to have him hold it the way he was (second from the left on the top in the last update I did). He could block projectiles coming at him from behind. This way, he keeps the ability to block, but the different side helps to separate him from regular Link.

Dunno if this will be of any use though, since you're having trouble with his whole stance.

I like that face.

This is simpler that you think it is look...
As you can see the two images are mirrored however by editing the torso and readjusting the arms you can make it look like Link is turned. Thanked by: Kitsu,

koopaul makes sense (they did this in smash bros with a couple of characters) but I don't like the whole "back is facing us" thing while he's facing right.
imo the character should always face toward the camera. Thanked by: Kairos

In that respect, wasn't the standard for most fighting game character design to have the character facing right and then doing sprite flipping?

See, this is why I'm thinking that Tink should have his sheild on his back, and only pull it out while ducking, but thats just my opinion.

You suggest that a lot but here's the deal, most projectiles aim higher than Toon Link ducking, so they would miss the shield.

i don't see the problem with his back facing, it makes more sense, eliminates the shield problem, and looks fine (not to mention its way easier to edit)

Not to mention that's exactly what he does in the game too. Go ahead look. The Links turn their backs. as a matter of fact almost every character turns their back against the screen when facing a direction...

I didn't want him to face away form the screen since that would look bad, seeing the back of his head. Josh, that stance is fine for facing left. Facing left won't be a problem. I'm just trying to get him to look good facing right. But if we don't want the shield to cover his body, he'd have to face away from the screen and we'd be looking at the back of his head. i think this would look good either way flipped or back view ... in the actual game when link goes right it shows more of his back |
