RE: Game? - killme - 05-28-2009

I don't like the idea of downloading characters into it...

RE: Game? - Kairos - 05-28-2009

Why not

Trying to pack everything in the game when it's released is dumb as hell. It would take longer for the game to be released and everything.

Just because it's downloaded doesn't mean they can't be unlocked.

RE: Game? - Kitsu - 05-28-2009

Well, there's the old Snake and Kirby sheets. They might already be on the mainsite. Also, Omegakyogre recently submitted his Gooey, and that's on the mainsite, too.

I believe there's also a Jigglypuff and a GW on the mainsite.

EDIT:
Gooey
Kirby
G&W
Jigglypuff
Snake
Paper Mario
I think those are the ones that are in the SSB/FSB projects that were mostly completed. I think...

RE: Game? - D2S-Speed - 05-28-2009

also dont forget paper mario as well he should be there as well

RE: Game? - Kitsu - 05-28-2009

Paper Mario
Here ya go. It's also in that other post up there...

RE: Game? - killme - 05-28-2009

I can make Lolo as a sprite, but if someone could make him as a character, that'd be great. I can't do coding...

RE: Game? - gmgaming - 05-29-2009

Is it going to be flash, java, or an executable? (I vote executable)

RE: Game? - Kitsu - 05-29-2009

Running can be done with double-taps, and smashes can be done by hitting both a direction and an attack button at nearly the same time.

Falling through platforms can be done 3 ways (pick your fave):
1. Quick-tapping (pressing and then immediately letting go)
2. Double-tapping
3. Down and jump at the same time.

I don't think tip-toe "sneaking" can be done so easily, but it's not very useful anyway.

RE: Game? - gmgaming - 05-30-2009

We could do all of those like they are in Brawl if we use the right program.

RE: Game? - tsr moderation staff - 05-30-2009

We should also add some new things beyond just general content. Melee wouldn't have been nearly as popular if it was just ssb64 with more characters and stages, it was the changes to the overall engine that made it good. Things like charging smashes, wall jumps, running attacks, etc...

RE: Game? - killme - 05-30-2009

We should bring "BOARD THE PLATFORMS" back Smile

RE: Game? - Runouw - 05-30-2009

Should there be one game, or can we also have one made in flashplayer? I have an engine already programmed, all I need to do is add the characters and sprites.

RE: Game? - MaverickETC - 05-30-2009

AI? lol
That may be asking too muchShy

-Jumping; Double-jumping and the extra jumps that people like Kirby can do. -Jump-through platforms
-Running
-Maybe 1 special attack

Actually, it's not the program that's the issue. It's the fact keybaords are 104 buttons that can either be read as on or off. Now, you can do quite a bit here, you can check if they are pressed, check when they are pressed, when they are released, and really there's not much else.

Now, were we to go to game pads, then it's MUCH easier to implement, because of joysticks. They have metrics that read from -1 -> 0 -> 1 and a lot in between, depending on sensitivity level. So if we do that we've got two things going for it, however we drastically reduce our audience if we do that.

So uh, it doesn't matter if I'm using C, VB or Game Maker, it's not a limitation of the program, it's a limit of the 'controller'.

I could throw in gamepad support after a while, but lets get a format much easier tested first.

Also, since I'm going to take my time to at least provide the demo, tell me what you want in it.

As of right now:

Playable Characters
Paper Mario
Kirby

Controls
Standing
Walking
Normal A attack
Taunt

Stages
Final Destination - [Smithy's, unless he refuses permission]

As of right now anyhow, and it's still pretty buggy (hitboxes, damnit) so while I'm hammering this out, tell me what you want for the first demo, with the reminder the more you ask me to do the longer it'll take to do it.

I get it now, but ou could have the keyboard and the option of plugging in a 360 controller. When you start the game, you choose the controller (keyboard or 360 controller) by mouse, or, we could have no options, but both keyboard and 360 controller work at the same time. Also, I think we should have an online play where you can play against other people on the internet, but that will come last.

RE: Game? - Negative-Zer0 - 05-30-2009

But Runouw has an engine in the works. Its in his signature. In has good control and every thing. He wanted the engine to be used for some game and i think it should be this one.
