Ripping models from 64DD games? - stuffybun - 07-15-2025

I've ran out of ideas and outlets for help so I might as well come here to ask a daring question.

How would you go about ripping models from a 64DD game? More specifically Mario Artist: Talent Studio. Polygon Studio is one and done, I've noticed someone managed to rip the default models using the blender import script. I would use the same script but that focuses on the .ma3d1 file type and not the .TSLT one for talent.

I tried using Nemo64 on PJ64 but that caused some graphical errors. I was told to try GLideN64, Glide said to use RMG (v0.2.4) and I did but I couldn't get it to work despite following the setup guide to get DD games to emulate. I'm kinda stumped on what to do next, whether to keep troubleshooting or stare at the wall. Is there any other emulators I could try that support plugins like GLide?

Thanks in advance for replying or trying to help

You should provide at least some sample files.

I don’t think there’s any tools or documentation for .TSTLT files, unfortunately.

I’ve actually been investigating this format the past couple days though; I’ve started adding it to my model ripping tool. It’s not supported in the EXE yet, and it might take a while to get it fully working, but I am looking into it. ?

I also wanted to share a 010 template I'm working on that documents the format, it's nowhere near complete but it's better than nothing:

As for an emulator to use, I've been having a lot of luck with ares: https://github.com/ares-emulator/ares. You have to manually specify the 64DD bios, but besides that it just kind of works. You want to use the 64DD version of the ROM (not the conversion that works for the base N64). The save data will appear next to the ROM, you can extract the files with LuigiBlood's MFS manager: https://github.com/LuigiBlood/mfs_manager
