This ain't Youtube'a fault. It's Google that's making these fucked-up changes. I swear to God, I've been asked to use a G+ account for, like, ever and now I can't comment without a Google+ page. BAH...humbug...

I mean, do you REALLY wanna know what my initial reaction was to this?

WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS BULLSHIT?!?

</extremelylargefont>

Anywho, that's pretty much my initial reaction to this thing in a nutshell. Google, just fucking realize that Google+ is a steaming, heapin', nutty brown pile of BULLLLLLLLSHHHHIT.

tl;dr Google+ can go die in a fire.

I just made a google+ account that I just don't use awhile ago
*shrug*

Dude, it's not the end of the world. All that happened is that Google (the prime reason why good YouTube channels get the income needed to keep making videos without getting an actual job) made a mistake that hinders the performance of YouTube a bit. Besides, if stuff like this happened before (i.e. the new layouts), then why are most people still using a site as popular as YouTube to watch videos instead of moving to Vimeo?

The point is that even though people moan and complain about how a new site is, people still use it. Sure, I think Google might address this problem in the future (even though it is unlikely from what I'm getting), but just sitting around and complaining like a spoiled child isn't going to do a thing. In fact, not even this nonsense about Bob and his "army" is going to be enough for Google to even give a passing glance. If anyone is trying to make a successful boycott of YouTube until Google changes YouTube back, then they are out of their mind due to how improbable it is. The same goes for publicly stating that Google+ should die in a fire. Besides, if that kind of thing always worked, then the web would have less trolls and idiots to deal with.

Anyway, ThomasSpeedrunner, you're making a mountain out of a molehill. I've seen the other comments in this thread, but none of them contained as big of an overreaction as this one. Perhaps you would like a cup of tea to sooth your nerves?

That's not exactly what I'm doing. I'm really sorry, but I've just been in a not-so-good mood lately. Don't get me wrong, I don't like Google+ at all, but I probably shouldn't have reacted the way I did.

...damnit...I think I'm starting to become depressed. *decides to shut up*

Well, I think I kinda touched on this already: some people depend on YouTube in part or in whole for revenue, so they can't just up-and-leave to Vimeo or whatever despite some of them being quite outspoken about Google's bullshit (e.g. AlphaOmegaSin). So that's one faction of users that already face the conundrum of "should I stay or should I go?".

Also, Vimeo/et al don't have nearly the userbase that YouTube does (and thus not nearly as many videos), so until a mass emigration takes effect, it wouldn't be viable for most people to just uproot.

So um, this video appears to have the old comment system. Unfortunately I haven't seen it return on any other videos though.

So it's either a glitch, or Google is actually regaining sanity.

To be honest, BullockDS, I actually used some of your rant as a basis for my own two cents on the matter.

Like you said, YouTube is way too popular to leave behind. It's not only about the money, but it's also about the countless popular users (i.e. Chuggaaconroy, the Yogscast) who make their home there. Even though I hardly ever go to Vimeo, I doubt it has users who are equal to the users who maintain the more popular channels on YouTube.

Unless the "youtubers" start posting videos on both youtube /and/ vimeo, there will be no mass emigration.

RE: YouTube: Google Plus edition! - E-Man - 11-20-2013

You have a good point, Sengir. Something like that would take too much energy to do for a large group of people.

Beisdes, even though I hardly ever go to Vimeo, I would be surprised if it has a similar system of earning money like YouTube. Given the choice between a web site where you only upload videos for fun and a web site that lets you do the same thing with a chance to get a good income, what most people would choose is completely obvious.

What the fuck is this supposed to mean?

RE: YouTube: Google Plus edition! - Sephirex - 11-21-2013

As a person who uses Youtube quite a bit, I was very annoyed when it forced me to default my account's e-mail to a gmail account instead of the e-mail I regularly used at the time years ago. The fact that I now have to have a Google+ account I will NEVER use attached to it and have random people add me is not only a problem that doesn't need to exist, but it has no logical bearing on my having a Youtube account at all. Give me an option if nothing else, not a mandatory jail cell!

Google is REALLY desperate to get people using Google+ aren't they?

Also, I agree with everyone, the new comment format sucks.

Let me put it to you this way. Would you rather get a steady income by posting videos for entertainment purposes, or would you like to work in a cramped cubicle in some office building that provides mandatory goods and services?

RE: YouTube: Google Plus edition! - TomGuycott - 11-21-2013

I don't think THAT many people survive on YouTube income alone, even popular video posters. I don't have any numbers, but from what little I've heard, not that much.
