Back on track, it does make peoples fears (or hopes) of Ridley being playable a moot point seeing as the development team thought ahead to how to address Toon Link in the Spirit Tracks stage. After all, people thought Toon Link wouldn't be playable at all after he appeared on the stage.

HOWEVER, as I said above the team could be treating Link as a special case, such as Wario being a special case in terms of having alternate costumes. The same could happen to Wii Fit Trainer, who could end up being the only special case of an alternate gender costume, despite it working well with other characters.

I wish they'd expand upon it. Imagine a male and female Pokemon trainer (perhaps with different Pokemon with the same movesets), male or female Villagers or, dare I say, a Mrs Game and Watch?

... Last one is sort of a joke because I don't know how prominent girl models were in the G&W, but I'd still support it.

Ghiraham replaces ridley, ridley replaces alfonzo, alfonzo replaces wii fit male trainer, wii fit male trainer replaces groose.

that settles everything

out of all the above, i think female animal crossing villager is pretty much a lock. animal crossing always had the option to select male or female, and nowaday majority of it's fanbase is female ( ... or that is just my streetpass luck )

selecting villager as a fighter in smash bros pretty much has to feel the same as starting your lsd fueled life in your custom named town full of animal villagers. if you are a boy, you will pick a boy, and a girl will pick a girl. well, most of the times.

about ridley, i'm not sure if this changes any of his chances. if the pyrosphere even has a stage hazard, it is likely to be ridley as he is fought there. while the (neo) ridley of other m is a clone, and the orginal ridley could be playable i don't think sakurai is going to put in two ridleys.

BUT

there is this stage in this game called Dead or Alive: Dimensions for the 3ds. it's developed by team ninja, who also developed other m. i doubt sakurai is going to do the exact same as they did.

that's why i don't think ridley is going to appear at the pyrosphere. infact; i don't think the pyrospehere is going to have any kind of stage hazard. well maybe rising lava because metroid

''an enemy from Samus's past may appear at any second…''

i think what sakurai's post meant to say was it could appear at any second now... but what is any second exactly? it's sixth months later now and we have not seen any screen of ridley as stage hazard. while all stages that have stage hazards introduced them immediately. i'm starting to think the pyrosphere might not have a hazard at all, and that ''any second now'' might be a direct this year when a new metroid game is announced. i doubt sakurai is going to let us wait that long, while he knows ridley is a character that people want for a very long time now. and while the game is far from good, other m might just improved ridley's chances of being in it.

By the way, if there are still some people who think Ridley won't be playable due to his size, I think this would provide a very good argument against that way of thinking.

i mean, in melee's opening he was made a little bit bigger than samus

I don't think Ridley is "too big." I just don't think he's important enough to warrant a slot in a game that is effectively about the struggles of a single character. If he makes it, great. If not, I won't be lighting my torch.

true, and i still accept this reason. but he's mostly the reason why the main character even has those struggles, in any way.i think that makes him pretty important.

He is responsible for most of these struggles though.

Quick response to multiple posts:

When reffering to "Neo-Ridley" I meant the X-Parasite clone which alternatively goes by X-Ridley/Ridley-X/Neo-Ridley. I specifically chose that one because he isn't even a reincarnation of everyone's favorite space pirate.

Female characters in G&W games are always a damsel in distress or background pedestrian.

Gender-swapped AC Villager is almost 100% going to happen. I could see and understand the coolness of a Gender-Swapped PT (particularly if they update it to the recent gen trainers), but they specifically chose Red in the previous game.

Ridley is not too big for a game where size is a relatively moot point. It should also be noted that King K. Rool would outsize the majority of the cast since Donkey Kong is usually less than half his height and is already a big character. This has never been presented as problematic for him, and it shouldn't be for Ridley.

RE: I love you all to death (Just so I can smash bros with you) (SSBWiiU/3DS) - TomGuycott - 01-25-2014

Yeah, I've never understood people's hangups with size adjustments when these characters within their own game universes have almost always had size adjustments and inconsistencies throughout their existences. I mean, based on DK's size compared to Samus, K. Rool might be as big if not bigger than Ridley (especially his N64 version, that was giant compared to the kongs).

Bowser is another one. His size hasn't even been consistent in Smash games, let alone Mario ones.

I don't really care too much about Ridley. I'd much rather see another Hunter like Rundas or Sylux or something. Particularly Rundas because he's cool and has a personality in the game beyond "roar I am dragon".

As for other characters, kinda still hoping beyond hope for Snake to return. He was my favorite in Brawl.

I thought Ridley had a personality. You know, as in being a cold and brutal, yet intelligent and strategic being who became Samus's sworn nemesis after he murdered her parents. He who has sworn to do anything in his power to destroy Samus, or to prevent her from getting in the way from his or Mother Brain's plan.

The fact that he's a dragon is just the frosting.

RE: I love you all to death (Just so I can smash bros with you) (SSBWiiU/3DS) - Kriven - 01-25-2014

I don't understand why "Ridley is too big" is even considered logical when Kirby is supposed to eight inches tall and Olimar the size of a quarter... Upscaling little characters somehow makes more sense than downscaling big ones?

For me it's not even about size, I just don't really care for Ridley, design wise even, he's just not appealing. It'd be cool to get some Wonderful 101 characters in on this.
