INACCURATE POSTER

Look closely at the wanted poster, it's almost the same style as Sega Sonic, I found it cute when they made a refrence to the JP-Only arcade game, as Ray hails from that game too.

Aaaand of course the pessimist sonic "fans" will latch on to these minor glitches and blow them out of proportion calling the game shit. Been going on since 2004, they're never satisfied.

Half of a level vanishing isn't exactly "minor."
Just restart the level... I haven't encountered this glitch yet and I'm minutes away from the final boss.

RE: Rev Up Those Sonic Cycles - Kriven - 11-03-2011

I shouldn't have to restart the level. It's like buying a CD that skips over a song 50% of the time right out of the package. Bullshit, somebody fix it, I payed for a whole album all the time.

RE: Rev Up Those Sonic Cycles - Cobalt Blue - 11-03-2011

OH FUCK A GLITCH IN A GAME I CAN EASILY FIX BUT I REFUSE TO FIX BECAUSE DAMN GAME HAS TO BE GOD'S GIFT TO INMACULATE PROGRAMMING

seriusly, stop being babies and cry for every single bump inthe road you find. is like you're looking for an excuse to yell about it.

RE: Rev Up Those Sonic Cycles - Chutzpar - 11-04-2011

I agree with Kriven, actually. Most of a level disappearing is pretty fuckin' heinous. I guess it depends how common it is, though.

Honestly I've had my ass hairs knotted for a really long time about how a lot of developers seem to use customers as unpaid beta testers these days. It's like PFFT WE DON'T NEED TO FIX THE GAME we'll release a day 1 patch once enough people complain!

an entire level vanishing is not a bump in the road, it's more like trying to drive over a roadblock.

also I played the latest demo today. Pretty fun!

RE: Rev Up Those Sonic Cycles - Rökkan - 11-04-2011

I've encountered the glitch twice, it seems to only happen in Green Hill Zone Act 2. tbqh it really doesn't bother if you're only trying to complete the stage, but if you're there to time attack/score attack, having to restart the stage because the game pulled off this shit on you is really bothersome, plus that shouldn't be there at all.

My impressions so far

[12:39:43 PM] DrSlouch: "oh hey, that's actually... out"
[12:40:02 PM] Rökkan! Rökkan! ( ^__^)--(.₢ o ₢. )¬: it has been out since november 1st but the PC version was released on steam yesterday
[12:40:07 PM] Rökkan! Rökkan! ( ^__^)--(.₢ o ₢. )¬: so i cleared the game yesterday
[12:40:21 PM] DrSlouch: oh okay
[12:40:29 PM] Rökkan! Rökkan! ( ^__^)--(.₢ o ₢. )¬: not because i was too addicted but because it's actually pretty easy and short
[12:41:01 PM] Rökkan! Rökkan! ( ^__^)--(.₢ o ₢. )¬: if you do the bare minimum
[12:41:21 PM] Rökkan! Rökkan! ( ^__^)--(.₢ o ₢. )¬: there are like 10 missions per zone, but you need only to do one mission per zone to clear the game
[12:42:44 PM] Rökkan! Rökkan! ( ^__^)--(.₢ o ₢. )¬: i thought the missions would be something like "oh okay i did it i'll procceed to completely forget about it forever"
[12:43:05 PM] Rökkan! Rökkan! ( ^__^)--(.₢ o ₢. )¬: but like, they're really fun and well designed
[12:43:44 PM] DrSlouch: oh, well that's good
[12:45:49 PM] Rökkan! Rökkan! ( ^__^)--(.₢ o ₢. )¬: there are some things i don't like about it but i need to play some more to be sure
[12:46:17 PM] Rökkan! Rökkan! ( ^__^)--(.₢ o ₢. )¬: like, same old thing with SEGA, which is lazy design (which i thought was Kind Of Gone after Colors)
[12:46:44 PM] Rökkan! Rökkan! ( ^__^)--(.₢ o ₢. )¬: sometimes doing things slightly different than what the designer intended: punishment
[12:46:55 PM] Rökkan! Rökkan! ( ^__^)--(.₢ o ₢. )¬: dying, getting hit
[12:47:14 PM] Rökkan! Rökkan! ( ^__^)--(.₢ o ₢. )¬: or because certain things in the stage didn't work quite well like it's supposed to work
[12:48:44 PM] Rökkan! Rökkan! ( ^__^)--(.₢ o ₢. )¬: but idk, when i was getting near to clear the game i was really tired so that might've been it

There are lots of little things that bother me (for instance, why do I lose a life by going on the "Start Over" option at the pause menu at a stage I've already cleared?) which feels like lazy unthoughtful design and a step backwards compared to Colors, but there are a lot of things they've got right too, but still, I can't do a solid review of the game atm.

RE: Rev Up Those Sonic Cycles - Saltonara - 11-04-2011

I just bought it. Those of you who have played it so far, was this a good choice?

RE: Rev Up Those Sonic Cycles - Keychain - 11-04-2011

Worth every penny.

RE: Rev Up Those Sonic Cycles - Azure-Tranquility - 11-04-2011

it's worth about $40.

I'm not totally disappointed that I paid $50, since I got a crapload of DLC. But the fact that for this so-called 20th anniversary game they couldn't even bother to add a halfway decent manual devalues the overall package in my eyes. The game is good enough to stand on its own, but I wouldn't pay $50 for just the disc.

That goes for about any game really, if I buy a physical copy I definitely want it to LOOK like I paid said amount. I'm just thankful SEGA decided to go the minimalist route by only charging $50 as opposed to the $60 standard.

RE: Rev Up Those Sonic Cycles - Saltonara - 11-04-2011

You're complaining about a fucking instruction manual for a rather straightforward game.

RE: Rev Up Those Sonic Cycles - A.J. Nitro - 11-04-2011

I bought this a few days ago and enjoying it. I'm going for 100%.

I'm old fashioned like that.

You can often tell the quality of a game by the quality of its packaging. A'lot of effort put into the packaging often implies it's at least a good game. Now that black & white manuals are almost the standard, the gap between quality is changing. Even so, I've sold games that had black & white manuals if I felt it wasen't good enough to justify shoddy packaging.

Sonic Generations is one of those cases where the game experience is good enough to overlook the packaging.

Off-topic but I viewed a video on Youtube of a guy unboxing Super Mario 3D Land, and it seems the manuals will also be 4-page "pamphlets", with in-game digital manuals or something. But it's in color at least. I'd attribute it to Nintendo always printing their manuals in color, and they don't want to ruin their consistency, and I can respect that. I hardly ever read the manuals anyway, but I still like seeing an acceptable substitute in its place, and this seems like an acceptable substitute in my eyes. It only furthers the idea that an all-digital game future is not that far away; In fact I wouldn't be surprised if next-gen the Wii-U is the only console to have "retail" games.

RE: Rev Up Those Sonic Cycles - Saltonara - 11-05-2011

You're an idiot.
So far, I am liking the game quite a bit. There's a fuckton of unlockables and collectibles and what not, so this'll keep me occupied for a while. They actually did pretty good on Modern Sonic imo. The only complaints I have have to do with glitches or bugs. Classic Sonic's spindash loses momentum too quickly, even if I'm going downhill, which uh... doesn't make a whole lot of sense. And every now and then the camera during Modern Sonic's 3D segments screws up a little. Really though, those are somewhat minor, and for the most part I am enjoying the game quite a bit.

RE: Rev Up Those Sonic Cycles - Rökkan - 11-05-2011

Alright I can't still make a solid review of this game because every time it's like a rollercoaster of emotions. The game is really good but can frustrate you so fucking bad. What Classic Sonic's Rooftop Run and Planet Wisp asks you to do sometimes can be classified as bottomline unreasonable. As well as there are some pretty fun missions and there are missions that you wish to mutilate the fun-hater miserable shit that designed it.

There are a notorious amount of things in the game that works "wonkily" that I should note:
First off that I think that even with the multiple paths and deathpit signs, accidental deaths can occour so easily that it almost feels like I'm back at Sonic Heroes. Mostly at Modern Sonic's stages (mostly because it's 3D I think), but that also happens a lot on 2D sections and even a few times at Classic Sonic's stages. I've also got some really nasty camera bugs a few times, so with all that, it really feels like the game is just trying all the time to pull the carpet off my feet, and, much like with other modern Sonic games, I feel like I can't trust the game, something that now I'm realizing that didn't occour almost at all with Sonic Colors to me (if I got hit or died, it was -my- fault, never the game's).

Second, the Homing Attack sometimes likes to just Not Work when I really need it, it seems to only work flawlessly if you're at a distance and sort of above the target. If you're too close or not too above it, it just decides that you need to be fucked and it doesn't work, I experienced this mostly at Crisis City Act 2 and SPECIALLY on that Vector mission that you need to attack back the musical notes he sends to you (Homing Attack REALLY doesn't work here, and the camera on this mission decides to fuck you over too).

Third, mostly about graphical decisions. I get it that you want to show off your amazing lighting that the Hedgehog Engine gives, I get it that you want the stage to feel alive and meaningful, but a lot of the graphical decisions of this game makes 2D sections sometimes look confusing, mostly because the background pops out so much and is so close to the foreground that it seems like a part of it. What aggravates this even further is that the game is really fast-paced, so it's even harder to distinguish these things at high speeds. Crisis City has this a lot because everything is fire on that level, so sometimes things can blend with each other a bit too fucking well. Also camera is too close from Sonic sometimes, I had a little more than a handful of situations that I had to pretty much jump blindly on platforms (the issue is mostly that everything is too much bigger than Sonic, really). Inconsistent framerate also sucks, as it also affects how fast your inputs are read by the game, which is a very notorious issue on a fast-paced game like this :I

Fourth, switches on walls. They only exist at Crisis City Act 2's Switcharoo Mission, but god DAMN they just REALLY don't work.

I'm off to play some more before I can pass a solid judgement of it.
