RE: Warm up the Sonic Cycle - Iceman404 - 06-23-2011

Didn't say they weren't going to include the characters. They just said that there won't be any multi-player on the console version, but the 3DS version definitely will. I also think it's pretty obvious that only Sonic will be playable on the console version.

Again, they DID say that there will be a huge cast of characters from over the 20 years.

This is what's wrong, this is the idea that I was commenting on. Because it isn't obvious at all given Sega's history.

Adding to this, Sega said something remarkably similar with both Sonic 06 and Sonic Unleashed IIRC. Guess what those 2 have in common :/

RE: Warm up the Sonic Cycle - Vipershark - 06-23-2011

I played the demo and within 10 seconds of starting the game i instantly disliked it
the first thing i did (even before trying to move) was fully charge a spindash and let go
sonic started moving so fast it was impossible to see what was going on

the controls feel stiff as hell and sonic feels extremely show if you aren't spindashing
it's like they set up everything so that you're supposed to be spindashing at all times and if you aren't, you're playing the game wrong

the run cancel into spindash just reeks of terrible game design, not to mention that the physics of it are completely impossible
there are also those annoying things from unleashed and colors where they randomly put a wall n your way and if you don't know to roll beforehand, you'll instantly stop

as unfortunate as it sounds, after having homing attack in 2.5 sonic games (or at the very least, sonic 3's double jump abilities for sonic) for so long, it feels strange not having any double tap abilities in this game

the game is pretty as hell but everything is extremely blurry at speed so it's not like yo can see it anyway

overall, i'm really disappointed
it seems like we have yet another sonic game with beautiful art assets and (what appears to be) a great soundtrack, yet shitty gameplay.
The sonic cycle continues. :I

I can actually base something and then say a thing because an actual product has been released.

This product? Fucking garbage.

Modern Sonic should be easy as hell, literally play Sonic 2 and just copy and paste that shit how the fuck do I get lag/sticky jumps? Why is Spindash a button? Seriously the game is wonderful for being a one button game how do you even....!?

I played the demo twice and up until i started pushing more than one button did I notice how wrong things felt. Limited height jumps? having to go up an incline twice because I can't see a platform properly? Fixed height springs...? God help me, I think I'm starting to believe in this Sonic Cycle.

RE: Warm up the Sonic Cycle - Rökkan - 06-24-2011

That shitty list of levels is true!

http://www.sonicretro.org/2011/06/morning-hacking-round-up-level-list-bosses-first-music-rips/#more-3986

Half of the levels are city levels, how fun!!!!!

You know what would be a cool, balanced list, that includes the best levels of each memorable game?

Green Hill (with Emerald Hill influences)
Chemical Plant
Hydrocity
Death Egg (with Final Rush influences)
Stardust Speedway (with a lot of Speed Highway influences)
Sky Deck
City Escape/Radical Highway (later acts could be at night and have aesthetics a bit more similar to Radical Highway's)
Casino Park/Bingo Highway
Dragon Road
Sweet Mountain

But well, I do like the boss list (although I'd love Classic Sonic against Egg Viper, specially instead of Egg Dragoon), and I hope those icons are of power-ups (Elemental Shields? Awesome! Also, I really wanna know what that badnik/ring power-up must be. Turns all badniks on the screen into rings?)

Downloading the music tracks atm.

RE: Warm up the Sonic Cycle - Iceman404 - 06-24-2011

Sky Sanctuary over fucking HYDROCITY?! What are they smoking?!

RE: Warm up the Sonic Cycle - Shadowth117 - 06-24-2011

I really hope they either add a fair few more levels through DLC or they have more than just those in the end product. Going off recent trends I ain't seeing that as likely, but still... Ice Cap, Lava Reef, maybe a single level from the Advance series would have been cool to see. While I'm guessing Time Eater will probably be something like a few zones mixed together, I'm hoping to at least see a space level in there somewhere.

I'm also hoping Metal Sonic's fight won't be too gimped considering how early it is in the game there.

RE: Warm up the Sonic Cycle - Kriven - 06-24-2011

....Hey yeah, why is there no Sonic Advance rep? And Sonic Rush?

RE: Warm up the Sonic Cycle - Locked Achievement - 06-24-2011

I was playing the demo, and I accidentally landed on some spikes, and tried to jump off them onto another platform, and because of the jump height restriction I couldn't reach it and was stuck on these spikes for ages trying to figure a way out

And that camera? Don't even get me started! You can't even see!

RE: Warm up the Sonic Cycle - GrooveMan.exe - 06-24-2011

Well don't give up hope yet. It's been shown that Sega will pay attention to its fans if they're vocal enough. Start organising some politely-worded e-mails and petitions, and hopefully someone will catch on that the game needs a re-tweak.

I guess I would say sites like Sonic Retro would have some pushing power in regards to that, but I dunno if they could be organised that well. :V

RE: Warm up the Sonic Cycle - Shadowth117 - 06-24-2011

The organizing certainly might be an issue, but its not like there's a lack of dedication, especially at Retro.

I mean if they can set up a perfectly good and organized guide to the Genesis Sonic physics and how they work, not only is it hard for me to believe they haven't tried, but it makes it pretty hard for me at times to believe Sega has tried in some ways.

Some of it may just be that they just don't want to go for that kind of an engine, but its annoying to hear them talk as if they are going for a Genesis style engine and then give us something akin to a marinated Rush one.

I think I could still enjoy the game somewhat as it is, but not to the extent I'd like to. Definitely not the same way as the parts of the series I know and love. I'm at least hoping to be more pleased with Modern Sonic.

That's most likely exclusive for 3DS

RE: Warm up the Sonic Cycle - Shadowth117 - 06-24-2011

Well that's the assumption, but we've really got no way to know that they won't just be ports from the other versions.

Personally though, I would ecstatic to see a level like Chaos Angel somewhere in that version.

RE: Warm up the Sonic Cycle - GrooveMan.exe - 06-24-2011

I dunno, it would make sense to have the handheld levels on the handheld console. I guess that means Generations 3DS might get Game Gear classic levels instead?
