Unless the re-releases were different from the Dreamcast one I would never call Adventure 2 a good game. The Sonic and Shadow levels were "ok" but no where near enough of them and the rest of the character's played like crap. Hell Sonic 4 was more enjoyable than SA 2 and that had some pretty shitty physics.

If they want me to love the new Sonic levels they better have some damn good music. The Adventure games had awesome music, something which has been sadly missing.

Sonic has also pretty much had QTEs for some time now. ike QTE and actaul QTEs are 2 different things though, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

RE: Warm up the Sonic Cycle - GrooveMan.exe - 04-18-2011

They're not so much QTEs as visual cues? You don't *need* to do the homing attack or foot stomp or slide when the command for it comes up - and indeed, in later stages you get alt. paths and hidden collectables by going against the grain.

Consider that Greenhill is going to be the first stage. It looks incredibly easy because it *is*. Have fun getting the S-Rank, though.

Motherfuck, I hate how these threads make me look like a fanboy.
I can't hate on SA2 because it's a) my first Sonic game, b) a game I put a nuts number of hours into (and I didn't even really get many A ranks), and c) still really fun. Some of the mid-game Tails/Eggman stages were samey, but I still dip into it to explore Mad Space or get an A in Final Chase (I STILL CANT. FUCK.). Also the multiplayer. Grind Races. Yesssss.

While the games after SA2 have fluctuated in quality, the music has always been good. With the exception of Chronicles (and Shadow/06 on the grounds that I've not played them), I can't think of a modern Sonic with bad music.
Heroes?

Unleashed?

Colours?

Actually fuck it, I can even think of a Shadow the Hedgehog track:

I dunno, I think the guy that wrote that knows the difference between QTEs and those visual cues for sliding and everything, but then again you might be right, he might have not been clear to what he meant by "QTEs".

Also, about the music: Most Sonic games, modern or not, have good or great music. Sonic 2006 has some really good music, and the worst that I've seen, besides Chronicles, was Sonic 4 (the melodies were okay, it was just ruined due to the shitty instruments trying to sound 16-bit but actually sounding more like a cat organ - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat_organ ) and Shadow the Hedgehog (pretty much mindless guitar riffs: the soundtrack. Although a couple of songs or so were good). SEGA is just damn great with soundtracks usually. If you don't like the soundtrack of a specific Sonic game it probably is because you just don't like the "genre" of the soundtrack, really.

Edit: When I was thinking a couple of songs from Shadow the Hedgehog, that was one of them Groove, haha!

Sonic Heroes main theme made Sonic seem super uncool. Live and Learn in SA2 made the final boss awesome even though it sucked huge balls. That's the difference I'm on about.

I wasn't a huge fan of SA2 on release and after going back to play it again all my good memories of it seemed to be mistakes. The adventure games are more fun to watch then really play, they look awesome but don't play so great.

And then we have Shadow. I mean Shadow was cool, but then Sega ruined him by bringing him back with no memory, or a robot or some other crap reason to have him back after face grinding the Earth from space. So now one of the main reasons I liked SA 2 when it's disc first clicked into my Dreamcast has been taken away from me.

And for the record I thought Shadow's theme "I am me" (or something like that) was the only good thing about that game.

Edit: After seeing Grooveman's edit I should make clear I meant mostly the theme songs for the characters. Not all the music. My bad.

RE: Warm up the Sonic Cycle - GrooveMan.exe - 04-18-2011

I tend to not count the Title tracks because they're usually awful, in that campy way that almost all vocal openings in video games are. I do have a soft spot for Reach For The Stars. It's a great melody, and easy to sing in the same way Escape From the City and Can You Feel the Sunshine are.

Ummm... I can respect you opinion and all but you're calling one of the best Sonic games of all time bad. Even if Sonic and Shadow's, Tails and Eggman's, and Knuckles and Rouge's gameplay were the same, that was still probably the BEST Sonic game I've EVER played. And it'll probably always be that way. In fact it's one of the better GameCube games ever.

RE: Warm up the Sonic Cycle - DioShiba - 04-18-2011

The only part I didn't like about sonic adventure 2 were the tails/eggman stages.

mainly because it was hard as balls for me to aim the damn cannon or whatever.

RE: Warm up the Sonic Cycle - Garamonde - 04-18-2011

The only thing I can say was that Knuckles/Rouge's stages were pretty annoying at times when you JUST couldn't find the emeralds. But otherwise, truly a spectacular game and one of SEGA's best.

some notes from the interview:

-sonics friends will be playable. tails, knuckles and shadow among others. "they are either going to be playable or play an important role in the game"
-levels are going to be taken from several entires in the franchise, with green hill zone being the first. whole point is to cover the 20 years of the franchise in the game. "its not about new or old things, its about covering everything"
-no co-op. its going to be a single player game.

RE: Warm up the Sonic Cycle - DioShiba - 04-18-2011

>the confirmed playable sonic friends are tails, knuckles, and shadow.

at least two of the said ones are somewhat important.

RE: Warm up the Sonic Cycle - Vipershark - 04-18-2011

i'm okay with this AS LONG AS THEY'RE THE ONLY ONES

but how will shadow work in terms of "classic shadow"

are they gonna cartoonize him and make him chubby?

Ether they won't bother retrotizing him or they'll make him look somewhat like this:
