What is his leg doing exactly?

RE: TUGS - Round 1 - Beginner WIP Thread - GrooveMan.exe - 09-08-2010

contracting far too much, it seems. It was meant to be a subtle movement, and clearly I fucked up.

This fixes it somewhat.

Edit:

I may even work on a Part 2 to this Anim if I have time!

Kinda choppy, might add more frames. Oh well, here's a WIP to show progress.

Pretty snazzy WIP.

Looks cool - the beard should wiggle too!

I tried to make it move a bit, but I'll try exaggerating it.

Wes, I'm not sure, but maybe "easing" might help you. :s

You see when you wave your arm from one side to another? When your hand reached the left, it SLOWS DOWN (= more frames). It's like if your hand is using breaks. In your idle animation, your character has 2 animatics. It goes from Position 1 to Position 2. Which is basically, he goes back...and forth.
Try to make him slow down, when he reaches those positions. Try to add a new frame just before the wizard is at the edge of his (in your animation that's frame 4/6), then, add another one for after frame (6/6). And hence, it'll loops.
Btw, do you use onion skins?

RE: TUGS - Round 1 - Beginner WIP Thread - Wes - 09-08-2010

Well the animation wasn't final and I've been making him lean forward a bit more with a few more frames, so the crit about adding frames isn't really valid right now. But I see what you mean about the hand movement slowing down, and I'm going to redo the arm movement and take that into account. Also I don't know what you mean by onion skins, so I'm assuming I don't use them.

EDIT: I mentioned the animation being a WIP before, meaning I wanted to make the wizard have more movement. I only posted that before to show progress and to have some sort of entry incase I couldn't work on it anymore. But I feel like this is pretty much complete now, though. 70x70, 12 colors, 12 frames (but it's just 7 sprites, played in order then repeated backwards 1-2Dope4-5-6-7-6-5-4Dope2)

It's smooth as hell, shaded well, but the pose. It just sort of throws it off.
Like his arms are in a pretty weird position and it looks like his torso breaks somewhere above the waist and bends forward.

I made an edit to the pose by bringing the legs back two pixels. Should allow for the torso to no longer look broken. Not sure what you mean by weird arm positions, though. I picked them by pulling a generic fighting pose myself and analysing how my arms bent in that pose.

I'm going to submit my entry today, so if anyone has any major crits to shout out, now is the time. I would wait until Saturday, but being in a different timezone, I have no idea when I have to get it in by.
