RE: Pokemon Zero Sprites - Boo - 06-20-2009

So your cool with the one I made? Nothing wrong?

RE: Pokemon Zero Sprites - Alpha Six - 06-20-2009

A lot of the shading is off, and so is some of the structuring. I get the gist of the design though, so I'll resprite it for you.

Early WIP. Any anatomy problem to fix before I continue?

RE: Pokemon Zero Sprites - Rökkan - 06-20-2009

I guess it's just because you're focusing on Arcanine's anatomy, but remember that his fur is really really fuzzy.
Also I think you should scale his head down, to make him look more beastly. Remember we're not following Ken Sugimori's style precisely.

RE: Pokemon Zero Sprites - Wes - 06-20-2009

Arcanine is also partially based off of a lion, and lions have big heads due to their manes. But I'll keep that in mind. Also, all of the fur is temporary. It'll be fuzzier once its been shaded.I think the face just looked wide, but I gave him more of a pointed pace like a dog, and it looks loads better. I also moved the head downward to make it seem smaller, and I made the body slightly larger to make the head seem smaller by comparison.

Probably needs a bit of tweaking, mostly on the flames, but i'll work on it a bit later.

RE: Pokemon Zero Sprites - Wes - 06-20-2009

Woof woof its a partially-shaded dog lion tiger thing.

I will add the stripes afterwards. I already tried them and, as with Lapras's spots, I think they kinda ruin it.

RE: Pokemon Zero Sprites - LeleleleMAXIMUM - 06-20-2009

I am not digging the body. Seems less anatomy and more lumps of clay. Maybe look at references of lion bodies (lol lion porn).
I like the head.

RE: Pokemon Zero Sprites - Wes - 06-20-2009

Looked at some references and changed somethings. How is it now?

The pose looks a bit boring, and the colors look way to orange-y and not enough red. I think you should dim down the colors and darken them a bit more.
I also think the detail in the fur is very grainy and kinda bad, I think you should focus on making it look like fur more simplistically, rather than going overboard on the detail and make it look not so good.

RE: Pokemon Zero Sprites - Wes - 06-20-2009

Well, compare the colors to in-game sprites like this or this. I think the yellow fur is good enough, but the orange could use some more red. The pose is supposed to be a basic standing pose, not used for attacks. THough I'll try and see hwo the fur looks when changed around a bit.

EDIT: so yeah, i got rid of some of the grittyness of the fur, and it looks good IMO. Also, the fur has been reddened.

Some critique on the Lapras... it'd be a bit difficult for me to explain, but I'll try to. If I had permission to edit your sprites, I could show you exactly what I mean but in lue of that...

  • Body seems a tish too large, mostly in length.
  • The knobs (...) on the shell should array outwards, not up.
  • Shell shape (rim) doesn't seem quite right.
  • The fins are thinner at the attachment points to the body, then radiate out larger, then taper at the tips, rather then being nubs.
  • The chest should not flop to the ground like that, but rather curve upwards more gracefully.
  • Shorten the snout a bit (not too much, but a bit), and move the horn a bit to the right. It doesn't seem quite centered...

You know, this project seems fun. I may try doing some sprites for it, though I don't know how well I'll do. Is there any colour limitations or anything?

I still think the orange fur should be darker. The brighter shades still look too orange, even when comparing it to in game sprites

RE: Pokemon Zero Sprites - Wes - 06-20-2009

OK. Another update. I rounded Lapras's stomach, rounded the nose, moved the horn, reshaped the fins, and shortened the body width-wise. I also made the neck shorter, which I think was part of the problem of why it seemed skinny. I don't know what you mean about the rim of the shell, btu I can fix the knobs in a bit. That will take more editing than the rest of this did. I also made Arcanine's lightest shade a bit darker, and added the stripes (which I made better than my last ettempt, and good enough to show).

RE: Pokemon Zero Sprites - Deebs - 06-20-2009

Compare the lower lip of your sprite to the reference image provided, otherwise it's beginning to look better. I think you have the fins originating too high up the body. If you fix that and the other things I've mentioned, I think you'd be set.
