RE: Neweegee's Sprite Topic - Neweegee - 10-25-2013

I updated the Paper Bros. sheet(should be final)
And I've put Scolipede into a sheet now.
There's only two animations and one frame missing for Scolipede now, because it doesn't seem like he'd have many more animations.

Anyway, before I go further, what do you think?

RE: Neweegee's Sprite Topic - E-Man - 10-25-2013

Well, I can't really think of anything else to do to the Paper Mario sprites. I'd say they're ready now!

RE: Neweegee's Sprite Topic - Neweegee - 11-01-2013

Well, this took faaaaar longer than it should have...

As usual, please tell me what you think before I try to submit it!

RE: Neweegee's Sprite Topic - E-Man - 11-01-2013

Ah! Not bad! Looks like this entire sheet is all sorted out!

What's next on your list, Neweegee?

RE: Neweegee's Sprite Topic - Neweegee - 11-06-2013

I have returned with another character!

unFAQ segment:
Q: Is it Mario!?
A: No

It's Dewott from Pokémon Black/White Version!
I've got some basic stuff done so far.

What do you think? Is there anything wrong?

RE: Neweegee's Sprite Topic - E-Man - 11-06-2013

Hot stuff! I've seen a few of these sprites on your Skype sessions, but now that I've seen the full sheet (or part of the full sheet anyway), I'm actually very impressed!

RE: Neweegee's Sprite Topic - Kelvin - 11-06-2013

Somehow, I see someone using these to make a Smash Bros game with way too many playable Pokemon... not that I'm complaining. XD

Hey, nice stuff, man! I found a few of your sheets during an update and your work definitely stands out to me. You definitely have the SNES-Mario style down, for better or worse. But honestly, I think it might be good if you tried to branch out and make sprites even better than the SMW style! Seems to me you'd be perfectly capable of that and are holding yourself back a bit. Here, let me try a crit for your Dewott sprite...

It might pay to focus on your pixel clusters a bit more. If your shading something that's round-ish, try making the shading as simple as possible by using ovals whenever possible. And if your shading a smaller shape, stick with 2 x 2 pixel clusters. It looks cleaner and is much more readable than shading with lines. It would also be a good idea to eliminate "lone pixels" when you're outlining your shapes. An example of some of these would be the tips of Dewott's whiskers, the edges of the feet and the tip of it's tail. To fix these lone pixels, you should either soften the shape (like I did with the tail) or sharpen it (like I did with the whiskers). And one last thing, you'll only want to shade when it's absolutely necessary! As odd as this might sound, it sometimes looks better if you avoid shading a shape! It makes the sprite look more readable and will save you time that you could spend doing other things, like animating. If you want to be able to master this technique, you might want to study some of Kenneth Fejer's work: http://www.kennethfejer.com/pixelmockup.html

RE: Neweegee's Sprite Topic - Neweegee - 11-07-2013

I tried changing it, but I didn't want to change it too much so it would stay in the same style as the sprites I've made previously, which also roughly match most fully outlined Mario-Style Sprites, which is what the style is about.
I think am holding myself back a little, but that doesn't mean I'm never going to try going with a newer and better style than I have currently, but now(at least, just this spritesheet), I'm trying to keep it close to this style, so users who use the sprites don't have them clash with the SMAS-style sprites that most Mario-Fangames use.

Still, I did my best to follow what you said without changing too much.

Looks pretty good! There's definitely a bit more structure in the feet and it seems like a good bridge between both of our ideas. Your highlight was also a little bit more well-placed than mine. ^^; Good luck with finishing this sheet!

RE: Neweegee's Sprite Topic - Neweegee - 11-17-2013

Guess what took longer to make than it should've:

I should stop tryin' to make more than one sheet at a time, but t'is done, t'was pretty fun!

Almost done, I can't upload it without your criticism or anything, could be something horribly wrong that I overlooked.

RE: Neweegee's Sprite Topic - E-Man - 11-17-2013

So far, it looks good. I could be wrong, but what you have is good enough for me.

A Link between your SNES and 3DS

RE: Neweegee's Sprite Topic - E-Man - 11-19-2013

You did that yourself? That's pretty incredible!

RE: Neweegee's Sprite Topic - Kelvin - 11-19-2013

While I'm excited at the idea you might be doing Link next, I still wanna see more of those pokemon trainers you've been teasing us with.
