so basically, you don't blame the tools if you make a bad art. You blame the artist.

MS Paint is prefectly fine for pixelart. There are other better tools such as Graphics Gale, but shitting over MS Paint like it's nothing is a pretty dumb move.

This being said, work on something custom. Those you've posted are as good as placing a blank sheet above an already-made drawing and copying it; try something new this time, and we'll gladly help you from there.

RE: Just Some Stuff - Garamonde - 01-31-2012

I actually don't use MS Paint myself (PSP7 FTW), but there isn't anything wrong with it.

RE: Just Some Stuff - Vipershark - 01-31-2012

I use XP Paint for pixelling and go over to GraphicsGale if I need animation or transparency (or both!!)

RE: Just Some Stuff - Hoeloe - 02-01-2012

No need to keep beating a dead horse, what I meant was that MS Paint is not the best tool for a beginner, because it has some rather large limitations, and it's base colour palette (which a lot of beginner pixel artists tend not to stray from) is horrific.

MS Paint is not really awful, as such, it's just far from the best tool you could use, and it's certainly not the best free one you can use.

Aside from this, I agree with Gors. Work on something custom. It's fine to use other's artwork for reference, but copying it directly is not usually a good idea.

RE: Just Some Stuff - Azure-Tranquility - 02-01-2012

How do we know he didn't use the picture as a ref and then copied it pixel by pixel?

RE: Just Some Stuff - Hoeloe - 02-01-2012

Even copying it directly is not generally a good idea. Use artwork as a reference for colour, lighting, character design, pose etc., but at least attempt to draw something original.

I'd be more than happy to. It would probably be more productive to talk about this guys sprites rather than argue over whether MS Paint is any good or not.

RE: Just Some Stuff - Cobalt Blue - 02-01-2012

thats the point. you just proved to be ignorant on the subject twice, so i'd rather shut up, or just focus on providing feedback on the content in question, wich is the sprites being terrible traces either carbon copies or eyeballed.

i'd consider this a verbal warning.
