So I was messing around with Gooey.
A few edits to the sheet and it should fit the style no problem. It was never really in style before.

what's funny is when I showed Ridge the Mario he was like "I don't think that's what they meant by 'new style'" or something.
I'll fix up Luigi and start animating Mario soon.

But I tried the character I'm suppose to be working on, and I loved how it turned out

Pichu's head should be more ovular. And yeah, lighten up the helmet a bit. It's a great start.

Just because this style is simpler doesn't mean you can't make his helmet shiny. Make it more shiny. His stance is also not very interesting.
It's pretty good otherwise, though.

I really wanted to give this new style a try, so I attempted this. Just a WIP outline, but I think proportionally and stylistically (eyes, mouth, ect.) it fits pretty well. C+C of what I've got so far.

Its the middle one obviously. Top row is there for height reference to Mario and BIS sprite is there for help with body proportions and I used it to help make the face in 3/4.

I know in Smash Bros his shell is topheavy like that; but in everything else his shell is lower and more normal looking, like in the BIS reference. I'd personally say it would look better to lower his shell.

I would have to disagree. The WIP's shell is already low enough, compared to Smash Bowser.
