Well the method is basically selecting a group of vertices and moving and rotating them. And just keep doing things until it looks correct.

It's pretty much just a trial and error kind of thing.

I'm having a hard time searching for the effect models (such as Gravity Well and Explosion)
Are the file formats MDL0, REFF, REFT, or TPL (please say it's not tpl)

I haven't looked into it, but if they are in TPL format these tools may work.
