It's a separate sprite. This can be seen in my sheets for both the STH3 and S&K Badniks sheets. (Majority of the Badniks are made out of separate pieces)

As Dolphman had said, and the dust is from the player character palette line - the skin tones for Sonic, Knuckles and Robotnik. It's also given in attached form with Rhinobot so as to see the placement.

Just some more messing around while I still got some spare time, covering missing palettes and fixing some objects otherwise not complete or present on the current sheet (they're on the proper WIP sheet, just omitted here to save on needless space).

I want to discuss some "General Objects", though - and this is by no means a roasting, just an explanation on what I've found. Contrary to what may be easily thought and concluded, the diagonal springs and the water surfaces not "General Objects". In the case of the springs, they're seen in Marble Garden Zone and Mushroom Hill Zone, whereas the water surfaces are seen only in Angel Island Zone and Hydrocity Zone. Personally, I reckon it'd make more sense to include them on those stage-specific object sheets instead of falsifying information about them. The same thing applies to an explosion type that occurs only during the Bomber Blimp section of Angel Island Zone. In the same vein, the standard switches only appear in three of the eight stages in Sonic & Knuckles, so I'm leaning more to make them stage-specific than general for that game's content.

This is essentially what I envision for the two types of General Objects sheets.

Both: Rings, Spikes, Springs, Explosions, Star Posts, Goal Signs, Bonus Stage Sparkles, Invincibility Sparkles, Scores, 'Over' Texts

Sonic 3 only: Underwater Palettes, Air* & Countdown Bubbles, Water Splashes, Switches, Special Rings

Sonic & Knuckles only: The Doomsday Zone Flash Cycle

Potentially Both: Animal Capsules

Otherwise Excluded: Animals (both games), Monitors (both games), Special & Super Rings (Sonic & Knuckles)

*Fun fact: the Air Bubbles appear in the VDP tile viewer for Carnival Night Zone Act 1, where there is no water.

I've sourced a type of explosion object set that may have carried over from Sonic 2 into Angel Island Zone, only seen in the presence of the Fire Breath mini-boss.

Beyond that, here's current progress on the General Objects sheet. Palettes in progress.

While working on the Master Emerald sheet, I decided I should include a bonus in the form of the Sonic Mania Plus palette, or a close approximation of it.

I don't have the game on my computer, and will not get it because I've got enough distractions on the computer as it is. The only way I've been able to get this close to the left-most color scheme is because of the one thumbnail up on TSR that contains the only static image version of the purple Master Emerald that I can find. The other schemes follow the S3K rules with some small deviations, as the glow works drastically differently in Mania, at least according to video evidence - the thickest point (point to point horizontally) is where the glow occurs when Heavy King is charging its attack phase. That won't work in S3K style because of palette limitations, as if part of one color on screen changes, usually the rest of of it will have to.

So there you have it, this is the closest I can get to making the purple Mania Plus Master Emerald complete with glow cycles while keeping in line with S3K rules. There are two versions because the top row takes from the Hidden Palace/Death Egg Zones whereas the bottom takes from Knuckles' Sky Sanctuary Zone.

Looking for thoughts/counters to the idea. It's a stretch but I'd like to see what people think on whether it should be implemented.

Well, I'll be patient on the idea for the Master Emerald bonus.

But for now, here's some recent playing around!

The Green Bomber/Blimp Thing from Angel Island Zone. Noticed that it wasn't on the site for some reason, so went ahead and got it. For some reason, there's a color discrepancy compared to the GIF used for the full display as seen on TCRF, but I'm going with what the game is showing me opposed to the site.

It's high time I got to reworking The Doomsday Zone boss sheet, and like how much prettier this is compared to the initial attempt way back when. I'm going to do something very different with the palette charts for this one - it'll be carried over to the Background and Objects sheet and the Sonic & Knuckles Sonic sheet.

Thanks! Smile I think we're going to need to talk a bit more directly through IM or something to properly organise it, but for now I want to make sure I've got the content properly sorted out before everything is ready, so as not to miss anything or put up something faulty.

Sonic 3's General Objects sheet is complete! The Sonic & Knuckles version should be ready within a few days if I don't get distracted.

And current progress on The Doomsday Zone Bosses! When the Getaway Craft darkens, it does what essentially looks like a reverse of the Flash Cycle. Where the FC would add 34 (by my palette usage) to each value up to RGB:238, the darkening subtracts 34 from each value until RGB:0 is reached. So I decided to expand upon it.

Also, I cannot get a full understanding of the Doomsday Zone Flash Cycle, so I'm going with approximations since it seems to change color to color on how the adjustments should be. Blank

This is so cool. I remember how epic this boss felt the first time I got to it.

IMO, the Egg Mobile should be separate from Kyodai.
