Romancing SaGa 2 Character Sprite Rips
#1
Hey, guys. It's certainly been a while since I've posted anything on The VG Resource. My first was with Romancing SaGa 2's remastered iOS/Android mobile devices, where I ripped all of the enemies and boss versions out of the remastered version. I took a peek in the Mobile version of this game to see what has been done for that game in tSR and I saw progress has been going well.

However, there is one slight thing which kind of bugs me right now: The "Playable Characters" sheet (seen here) has all of the sprites for the playable characters...but not any of their palette swaps like Ryan914 did in the original SNES version of this game! (click) They might be one frame, but I decided that I could do better than both of these combined. Here's a handful of my work thus far:

I'm ripping all of the palette swaps of these class characters in the remastered Romancing SaGa 2 version and including all of their frames and sprites. I will also include their respective names. However, due to how technically what I'm doing already exists in tSR, I decided to post my work here and ask you guys this: Do you think my sprite ripping work looks better than what already exists in the RS2 "Mobile" page shown in the top link, and is worthy of replacing the existing sheet with a bunch of these seperate sheets? Yes, I plan on ripping all of the classes and their palette swaps, too.

I'm assuming you're doing these pallete swaps the hard way, through screenshots, considering the game's files only have the base sprites.

Anyway, I think it would be easier to just have the base sprites and then have one sample sprite for each palette swap.

Yes, I am. As for the sample sprite for the palette swaps, that's basically what I'm doing right now, except with every single sprite using that palette swap. It's like using the palette swap samples but having them already recolored so people who want to use them don't have to do it themselves. That is, if they know how to do that.

I don't see why you couldn't replace the current sheet, considering what you're doing is more complete, in which case you could have a sheet for each class and one for the unique characters.

Finally, after a whole month, I've completed all of the seperate character sheets for the remastered Romancing SaGa 2 version: One sheet for each class and their palette swaps (names included), and another for several other major characters with "fighting" frames and sprites that don't fit into their own sheet. I put all of it in a .zip folder because there's too many images to post.

There's still the matter of ripping up the enemy/monster field sprites and other various NPC sprites, though. I'll get down to that soon. For now, what do you all think? Smile

Thank you very much Falconpunch. I am using your sprites in a tool I just released. I visualized from the start how I wanted to show characters sprite. Was about to give up on that idea when I found this thread.

It is a skill spark assistant tool. Pick a tech and it shows you sparkable characters and monsters of appropriate levels.

@Panupat: Very interesting tool. Sounds like you put in a lot of effort into it.

Anyway, I've finally finished this set with two more sheets: NPC's, and Monsters/Antagonists. This one took a bit as well, since I've been putting it on the back burner for quite a while. But, I'm super happy with how I finally managed to get this out. Now, I'll go ahead and submit all of these to the Spriter's Resource and replace the older sheets. Thanks for your support, guys! Wink

This is great. I saw all the sheets in the queue. If you want to make icons for these, we can accept them right away.
