Love your work so far, man!

Just a couple of thing from me:

Megaman looks rather beefy. Looks like he has been hittin' gym. I'm not sure if that was intended or not, it might be a style thing, but I think Megaman should be smaller than that.

Also, not as much as a big deal, but his helmet has a little more of a point to it in between the eyes.


Other than that, it's lookin' pretty good! Keep up the good work!

Yeah, the characters I and another spriter are designing are a little stocky. We have a game concept we are working on very similar to Card Saga Wars, so we're trying to get a bit of a cartoony vibe from the sprites.

The three things that are affecting his muscle definition are the shadow on the left (our left) side of his torso near his chest, the small 3 pixel shadow defining his right pec, and the thickness of his arms and legs. I think I can reduce the shadow a bit and see how it works out, so thank you!

His helmet does come out at more of a point, you're right. I modified the colors we originally had on the head while making the body, so it altered his helmet a bit. I'm going to try and make more of a point.

Aww sweet! Lookin' pretty good, man! I remember seeing this on /r/pixelart earlier.

If I could offer some feedback, there seems to be a bit of banding on the interior of the legs and the tops of the shoes. You might also want to round out the edges of the shading on those parts to clean them up a bit.

I think I see what you're seeing in terms of banding.. not totally sure. Iirc banding only counts when the entire line of color lines up with another line of a different color right next to it, all the way across. Attempted to avoid this as much as possible, but I think I only see one instance on the leg.

Hopefully I fixed any shadow issues, as well. Couldn't exactly round it out without making the light source seem as if it wasn't coming from the way Megaman is facing as well as the front, which it is.

I also am helping on the project; it is a traditional fighter, but will base the Nintendo characters in the game primarily off their Smash Brothers incarnations

Hmm the pose you picked is a bit odd, mostly the lower body section. It seems like if you were to do a side view you'd see him like kinda sitting down a little on air. Like this [Image: b00a3a537b518301c8e0a21b9e62770e.png] Makes him look a bit unbalanced. Might be due to shading, however I think its also due to leg placement. Try playing around with more horizontal placement

It is an interesting use of outlines but also not using outlines...not something I do so I can't really help with that.
The transition between light blue and dark blue on the right (his left) arm is a bit straight. I'd personally try and round out a few of your long straight lines like the top of the right arm (and maybe the right side of the head/helmet but I guess that is a personal preference).

I understand what you're saying, but he is supposed to be a little crouched in a way. This is a fighting stance, so it really is as if he is hovering over an invisible chair, almost sitting on it. A more relaxed state could work, but I'll think more when we get around to this character. Started a base just to get an idea of the style we wanted it in, but Mario is going to be animated (and revised) first.

That type of technique is called selout. I attempt to use outlines when it's needed, but the light comes from the right side, so it isn't always the best to use an outline. I generally use this to avoid banding, as well.

I'll look into straightening out those lines, too, because those aren't great. The helmet will most likely stay, but I'll try it out too.
