Mario FA - Vanishing Colosseum

I don't know how to really explain this game but I'll try

it's my first Mario Fangame that I've really shown. Featuring graphics drawn by me! (except most of the fonts, those were too boring to draw) And New Super Mario Bros. style music(not much BAH though).

In the game, You're Mario, it's been 10 years, almost everything has changed

and for some reason your best friend(and Partner-in-Platforming) is a Piranha Plant named Patty.

There's actually a bit of a story from that point but whatever.

The goal is to get to the end of each Round in a Stage, kinda like Super Mario Kart. You can switch between Mario and Patty to use their abilities to beat enemies and collect coins to power up and use even stronger moves plus reduce the time you took at the end of the round(sorry Speed Runners, but you'll have to explore the level to really get the fastest time)!

I'm making this in Game Maker Studio, but I've built the game's engine from scratch.

You can download the current demo and tell me what do you think! I've made 1 of 4 planned Stages and 4 of 17 planned Rounds in the demo. (sorry no actual vanishing colosseum in the demo)
There's some slope issues but I'm still working that out.

Also, the controls in case you feel pro enough to play the game without reading the info file that comes with it.

So I started making the game's next stage and I thought I'd tell you now to let you know the game isn't already dead. I'm doing a Super Mario Kart(or Donkey Kong Country) setup with having stage themes. So here we have "City of Walls 2"

Edit:Whoa crap. Round 5's design has been remade from scratch(almost), so the awful joke has been replaced 1 screenshot

As you may have bothered to guess, I'm setting the difficulty higher than the first stage's, but you will still be able to play the stages in any order.

I don't like how the background and foreground have different pixel sizes. Makes me think of GBA games when they milked scaling worse than Sega milks Sonic.

Huh, I never noticed the differing pixel sizes. I kinda like it.

Aw man, I saw "It's been ten years and you're still Mario" and I was really hoping for like, an older Mario with a greying, long Hulk Hogan moustache that can't fall from high platforms due to back problems and concussions from all the adventuring he's done in the Mushroom Kingdom.

Also, I thought I needed an actual villain(Wario is just a regular jerk) and I didn't want to use Bowser or some obscure Mario boss, so I went and made some random designs.

You can choose which one I should use because I'm not very good at choosing character designs just like I am at beating Super Mario Bros.

Those look like good villain designs (especially the poptart one), but they honestly don't scream "main antagonist" to me. Sure, they're good designs for standard bosses or members of a villainous reoccurring group, but unless you use more than one of these designs, I can't see any of them as the final boss.

it's ok to suck, sucking is not bad, just try and aim to always do your best!

I already know what to do about that, but I made the designs for a boss that pretty much keeps the story going by doing random stuff to Mario and leading up to a final BAATTEELL!.

In that case, my suggestion is to keep all three as separate characters. Each one looks very unique and has the possibility to offer something fresh to each encounter (i.e. the first one fly, while the second one digs).

Also,

Apparently the download link for the demo may have been broken. because someone told me they was unable to download it.


Mega has a per-link key pass thingy I seemed to have forgot to turn on, and since I'm always signed in, I never knew it was off. And this same link and has been few places which probably explains why nobody said anything about the gameplay, but I'm sorry for screwing up the link if it hasn't been working.

So if anyone wants to try the game, You can now but now without a broken link! [Image: Happy_You.gif]
