IMO his feet look a bit too shaded still -- I think you could get rid of that darkest shade and it would look good and more in-style.
I also have slight readability issues with his back arm being right against his torso but that might be just me since no one else has brought it up yet.

From left to right, this is going from the oldest to the most recent version. I always out that my rep's irregular proportions (even for this cartoony style) stook out like a sore thumb and I wanted to fix it.

your evolution makes it look like a megaman x edit now, bro. there is no "evolution" on this since you basically made yourself taller and a tad more detailed. you didn't even changed the head.

Considering you have like, at least redesigned your character more times than sheets you have finished(or that anyone else in the entire project), i'd doubt this is your last version.
My only concern is the detail in your sprite. It's only ONE frame. Imagine how long it will take you to sprite all the animations.

I can't wait to see it animated by the way... Once you finalize the look Tongue

That's the one thing I forgot to check. Dangit.

Those problems could be the easiest to work with, considering that the real problem I'm trying to correct all this time is the mass of the character. Origionally, the torso looked too massive compared to the rest of the sprite, then the feet, and so forth.. Which brings us to our next issue meta points out is..

Here. How to make Gaia look suitable for the game, without making him look like a fraggin' X edit and worrying about other entrant's tastes at the same time. I looked at other robos from before, but I haven't really seem to figure out what route I should take. Last time I tried to tackle with this issue is that I tried combining Gainax's stylized mecha designs with the simplicity of Yoshiyuki Tomino's designs (which such a task would be downright impossible without the right sources). So far the head turned out good, but the real problem is the body itself.. But the thing is, some people seem to like this design more. What do I have to do, dress in magical girl grab and do the hula?

I can reduce the detail to near zero, making it easier to animate and I won't have to resort to laziness by using parts for animation. I fixed some of the key issues, but I'll have to check for more areas that seem a bit too overdetailed and cramped to correct. Size is no nonger an issue, the next problem I have to solve is readability.

the pose itself makes no sense. its completely off balance(he's literally sitting on an invisible chair)

Still looked a bit off to me, so I tried making one, I dunno.

Back leg on mine is kinda fucked up, but I think this kind of pose would be better. Right now yours is kind of doing kind of a He-Man squat, or at least that's what it looks like to me. Wasn't sure what the backpack thing was, so I just made it kind of a dark red block on his back.
About the backpack, most friends here (and on deviantart) see it like a jetpack or something. Or it could be just a generator on his back for his stronger weapons. It's also red AND black, maybe I could add that to some of his moves, haha.

The faceplate might be a LITTLE too shiny for this style though. Shy

Gaia I'm sorry to say but this is all I can see every time I look at your design

Seriously, lose the bulbous arms and legs. They will never not be associated with Mega Man. The shoulder pads, the chest plate thing, arms and legs in body suit...They're Mega Man. They just are. It's distracting.

If you're so stuck on Mega Man, copy what other people do. No, I don't mean copy them then use that as your final thing. I mean, copy it on paper a few times (exactly as you see it) to see other approaches to the robot issue. Then adapt what you learn from many different sources instead of adapting what you learned from one source.

This isn't so jarring on say, CBL (forgive me for making you a poster child again) because he's definitely not claiming to have made something original and his other designs show that he's not stuck in some Mario style or something. But all of your stuff looks like Mega Man, and it doesn't seem intentional.

I've copied and examined all sorts of styles over the years, video games, western comics, western cartoons, anime, real life, whatever. That doesn't make you unoriginal, because in the longrun you'll have added all of what you learned to your "arsenal" of techniques and then you can adapt them into something more original at will. Mega Man is just too iconic to not immediately be able to see its influence when it's this deep. Unless Gaia is supposed to be a Mega Man fancharacter (and probably even if, because MM designs are at least a little more varied), then you need to learn something new.

Technically, I've been trying to solve that issue. And secondly, my character's not original, because I have seen similar designs beforehand, and I already know that. As I said before, I'M TRYING TO SOLVE THIS ISSUE, it just takes time. It might take a little while longer now that I work on the weekdays at Goodwill.

Yeah I know, but I'm saying a lot of the time you spend is basically going in circles around the same small set of design ideas. The changes you make a very, very minor. You have to branch out and try REALLY different stuff, because otherwise it's not gonna matter how much time you spend. You have to learn and examine and experiment. Tweaks aren't going to work.

I'm trying to tell you how to better spend your time, not saying that you don't need to spend time or that you haven't been trying.

I more or less saw Gaia as a Robot Master/Reploid character, rather than a "normal robot", which would probably be okay if he didn't resemble Bass or Emerl or Mega Man/X so much.
I'd say for now try to change him up until he doesn't resemble any of the characters mentioned, since as you know, for example, despite the similarities in proportions in most of them, they're all otherwise quite different (especially the animaloids, obviously).
While I think it's awesome to have a Reploid character and all, I'm thinking that during this time of difficulty though it might be better to change your approach for now, try to get away from Mega Man inspirations until you can get comfortable with other things.
Maybe give him more of a cyborg or Metabots type motif...? Grab different ideas and inspirations from everything else that you like that doesn't pertain to Mega Man. I dunno just trying to help! Mostly I think you should try to design the legs and arms smaller since MM robots/reploids have big lower legs (and even bigger feet) and forearms. That'd be a start, I think.
Just please keep at it, everyone has problems at some point, this is just part of the learning process!

(You should totally make him a Kamen Rider. I mean he already has giant bug eyes.)
