Or how about one of the following for Poochy (or a mixture of 'em)?

1) Appears, but does nothing but look around, pant, and wag his tail for several seconds. Then he leaves.

2) Appears, moves over to an item (Poke Ball and related) and bats at it with his paw playfully (like how he bats Yoshi eggs in SMW 2). After three bats of an item Poochy ends leaving the stage.

If somebody grabs and throws the item though before the third bat, Poochy will go and fetch it knocking over anyone in the way for damage and knockback in order to bring the item back to the item thrower. Poochy then leaves the stage.

3) Appears, moves over to an item, and then picks it up with his mouth. He'll run away from everyone trying to get them to run after him risking falling off the stage in the process. If somebody knocks the item out of the mouth before Poochy falls out, Poochy will then leave the stage.
I like the idea of him chasing items.

Maybe he could just walk around care free, and if anyone throws an item, he chases it. He could be a hazard to all, even the one that summons him.

I really like this.
I like that idea too. It fits pretty well and its a very unique attack.
The way I see it, it could really make a match interesting, for example, the summoner throws a smoke bomb at his rival, Poochy starts chasing it, heading right for the rival who catches it in midair and tosses it right back.
I also like that idea :]
How about;

1. Poochy comes out of a Trophy. He chooses an item on the field at random and runs to it.
2. Poochy sniffs at the item. If the item is not picked up, Poochy will disappear after a few moments.
3. If the item is picked up, Poochy will follow the player, doing damage to people in his way.
4. If the item is thrown, Poochy will dash after it, hurting players in his way with more knockback. (Should be funny with Red Shells, if included.)
5. If possible, Poochy will retrieve the object and return to the player who threw it. (Should be funny with Bob-Ombs.)
If no items are on the stage at the time, the trophy should also spawn a smoke bomb or something basic.
Glad that's settled.
I'm wondering though, if you time it right, should you be able to stand on him?

I mean, he'd be fast so standing on him would be hard, and if someone throuws something off stage, you could go for a fall, but at the same time, it could help you stay clear of danger.
We can do that. Why not?
Okay, I tried to sprite Jolene for the Linebeck AT and it didn't go so well. Honestly, I couldn't find a good ref of her, and... honestly I suck at spriting people.

So yeah, feel free to edit, please, especially the face.
Well, I wouldn't say you suck. It's actually a pretty good start.

I'm voting no on it because this isn't like a normal fighting game. The characters in Smash Bros. are too acrobatic to warrant it since all you'd have to do is jump to avoid damage and possibly land on him with little trouble. I'm pretty sure that the developers agreed too considering every enemy that does charge you in the official Smash Bros. games damages you even if you land on them.

You definitely don't suck. Now as for me, there's a reason I haven't done any sprites for this project.
Poochy isn't going to be an enemy. He'll be a AT which is quite different. And it'll be a homage to his original appearances where you can stand on top of him while he runs to wherever. At least that's what remember.
