king metroid Wrote:seriously, mariotroid? what were you thinking, that's rediculous.
Back in the era in which I made these, I had a friend who went by Mariotroid, plans for a game called Not Super Mariotroid, and I saw a neat picture depicting Mariotroid.

I honestly have no idea why I didn't put a zoomer in there. There probably wasn't one on the Metroid spritesheet I had handy at the time.

Okay, they're crappy. I've always failed at contrast. Sorry for bothering you. Tongue

Apparently, they also have too many colors. I thought I kept the color count low, but it seems several of them have around 14 and one has 18. Either way, they're old, and not up for improvement (like I meant to say, they're 3.5 years old) unless I actually decide to make a Mariotroid game. I could probably improve them, though.

You think these are bad... You should see Mother Boorain. Smile I gave up on that because it was so horrible and flat.

Hey, wait. Want these? I made them for a game--and actually made the game, too. Tongue
[Image: prjmmeteroidsallqm2.gif] (Sylux's ship isn't that great, just like old times. But I liked Samus's ship! And yeah, I can certainly separate those and remove the flying saucer and explosions 'n' whatnot. But the flying saucer is from Asteroids! Smile )
Or how 'bout a Super Metroid-esque save station?

I apparently haven't made any more Nintendo sprites since I got better. (Can't count this here because it never happened!)
wait...you're not gonna fix these?
Not, as I said, unless I decide to make a Mariotroid game after all. I suppose you liked the idea, too? Tongue
if you weren't going to fix anything, why did you post the sheet?
It was an attempted submission.

(And also for amusement, which is pretty much the secondary purpose of life. Tongue)
Er... if you read the rules, you'd know that FAN-MADE characters will never be accepted to the site.
And I did read the rules, and I knew that the Mario-Samus part wouldn't be accepted, but I left it there for amusement, as I said. (I also noticed the downloads link was broken, when I was reading the rules page!)

If you read the topic, you would know that... Smile
I couldn't.
I didn't want to expose my brain to too much stupid.
I'm sorry if the topic is stupid to you, but it's common forum etiquette to read a whole topic before posting (unless it's exceptionally long).

Just like it's common etiquette to read the rules, which I did.
Question:
Are you just trying to find something you can submit?

The Mariotroid stuff isn't very good, which I'm sure you understand by now. Also, Mother "Boorain" doesn't look much like a brain at all.

However, Samus's ship looks pretty good. The explosions are decent, too. The save station looks okay as well.

Well, it's not like I'm going to make something just to submit it; but why shouldn't what I've already made be submitted if it is worthy? Tongue (Yup.)

I appreciate the compliments on my ship, explosions, and save station...and yeah, Mother Boorain looks like a blob of nasty orange pancake mix. Smile

I'm pretty happy with my explosions, but even they could be better, ie. with dust and whatnot. And explosions don't really seem to fit the ticket for anything game-specific. "Here's my version of an explosion used in StarFox 64!" Smile
I dunno. Maybe you should expand the stuff that they think is worthy of submitting, and then submit it? That way, it has more to it and is not like those "5 sprites on a sheet" sort of thing MFM has all the time...

Currently, while I think Samus's ship has the most potential, it just doesn't have enough on it to really warrant submission yet. Try bulking it up with more actions, enemies, weapons, powerups, and other stuff that would actually be useful in a game.

Also, LOL at "nasty orange pancake mix."
Hahaha, you don't know it, but you just insulted the many members who "make something just to submit it".

Aaaanyway, pretty odd to post something you know won't be accepted.

Well, I used the ship (and all the other sprites in that same animation) in an Asteroids clone. I suppose I could make, say, a damaged version of it...but there's not really much that ship can do, is there?

I didn't say it was a bad thing to make something just to submit it. But it's not how I generally do things.

I knew the Mario-Samus wouldn't be accepted, but as I said, I figured people might enjoy it, and I thought the rest of it might be (and that part is why I posted it in the submissions area).

Hmmm... I guess you're right...
