No one should have trouble supporting sprites with alpha or rotation. If you're talking about 2D skeletal animation, that miight be a problem for some people, especially if their engine doesn't already support it. You could of course just do 3D model animation with sprites as 3D quads. I've never implemented mode-7 before so I'm not sure how difficult that may be (if you want it to be accurate). I think Valo did something similar before (http://www.vg-resource.com/post-596483.html). Really, I would just go 3D while keeping the camera-facing sprites instead of trying to fake mode7...which was trying to fake 3D anyways.
Regardless of bossfights and how to animate them, I think it's a great time for you to learn how to make a game design document. Basically, type out all the things in your game, as if you were writing your game's instruction manual. Write about the idea of the game, then dissect the topics (controls, gameplay elements, bosses etc) as much as possible so the potential programmer can read it and use it as the "recipe" to your project.

It's a very time-consuming (and rather boring) task but it'll make things a lot more efficient. Google docs has a built-in topics searcher thingy so you may want to use it. It's online and shareable with everyone, too!

I am particularly not too good with writing design docs myself, but if you want a visual guide on how to make one, check out the design doc for Super Arisa World I made a couple years ago.
Taking your advice, Gors. Right now, I'm trying to outline the whole game's story (is that a good idea, just so long as I leave out the spoilers?). Hopefully, I'll be able to cover everything I can think of. I have a bad habit of not writing ideas down when they come to me.
I was able to make this the other day. Sadly, my laptop is taking forever to save anything and ms paint won't open at all. I've tried using a System File Checker, but nothing's working. I'm afraid to do anything on my laptop as a result, so I don't know when I'll be able to update again. If anyone has anything to tell me to help, it would be much appreciated. :/

EDIT: Oh, I forgot to tell you what these are. Remember in Zelda II where enemies would roam the map? This is based on the same idea. The blue one indicates a weak gauntlet of monsters, the green represents a gauntlet with stronger monsters, and the red represents an optional boss encounter.
What Engine are you using to make this as a game?

Just wondering.
For now? Game Maker. That could change, though.

Also: don't worry about my computer. We restaged it and now it works. Lost a lot of work, but that stuff can be replaced.
Never used Game Maker, so I can't say much.

I do know that in the right hands, it's a really good engine, just like Unity. Sad that people bash a game just by the engine used, and not the creators of the game.
im really glad to see this is still being worked on, i posted a brief history of internet pixelart on another forum i went to and a lot of your stuff was involved in the thread, specifically some things that were from this game. i thought it was aban-doned!
Well, it's not abandoned. Smile
I'm moreover working on the googledoc for this, but it's still going!
New sheet: not much, but it's the Anubis enemy from Zelda Ocarina of Time which did very little other than float and spew fire.

i suppose the magenta is transparent, right? it looks out of place atm
Well, to be honest, I was going by the official art piece where the inside of the head of it was purple. Sad
I don't know what the color restrictions are or the original art it was based on, but barring those two facts is there any chance that the magenta color could be shifted to more of a pastel color purple instead?
This is what he the official art looks like. Honestly I'd keep the magenta part a single shape and make only the blue be animated.
