well...as long as we point out any probs in the demo, the game should end up being pretty good :>

no really, with sprites like those what can go wrong? Very Sad
Well I've never made a game before Momotaro, I feel that my level design is atrocious, the main character uses an extremely limited sword like weapon among other things. This project is way bigger than it looks. I think I've bitten off more than I can chew.
NEVER GIVE UP. TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS.

EDIT: you could try and find people who are willing to help i suppose idk :0
Well, you won't know unless you try.
It's your first game, no one will expect it to be groundbreaking. And if it turns out to be, then great.:>
Don't give up, because there are probably a lot of people who want to see the final product. I mean, you should just go and see how it would turn out. The first demo at least showed a little progress, and it's not worth giving up.
Well alright. This would really help with future games too I guess.
Mozz Edit: You kind of spoiled a bit of the game :/, deleted a bit.

Also, why should teh name be in katakana rather than hiragana? I'm only in first year Japanese. .O.

This looks very nice. I like the simplistic style. I like Japanese stories, I'm actually writing a manga based on one, and I love how you used Momotarō.

Is there anymore sprites? I'd love to see them, especially the oni if there are any.

Also, -Dark-, what was used to make the Runaru Village theme?

There really isn't any universally-accepted spelling rubric when romanizing Japanese.

Being the annoying Jap sir that I am, I feel I should post on those.
There IS a universally-accepted spelling rubric when romanizing Japanese.
Because if I write doumo arigato in hiragana, I will use do, u, mo, a, ri, ga and to.
So the correct romanization of that is each of the characters respective sounds.

And honestly, I don't have a japanese font on this computer, so I can't see the title of this thread.
If it's in Katakana, it should be in Hiragana, but it honestly doesn't matter.
Much in the same way that Naruto, though a Japanese word, is written in Katakana on the manga and anime. Japan uses them interchangeably anymore.

The game looks super fun. Big Grin
I want to play it.

It's in hiragana.
Right, but someone said it should be in katakana. Thanks for answering my question. Is Team Dumpling planning anything after this? I'm very curious, because this looks really cool.

Oh, and don't think about giving up. Momotaro(u) looks awesome.
Mozz... when are you finishig this?
I need your help for Bro,Bro Cry ...

The name would be in Hiragana because its a native Japanese word or name. I'm not going to show anything until the demo's released. But after that, the sprites will be posted on tSR by me. Unless somebody wants to rip from it. The Oni are enemies in momotaro so, pretty much what you see in the screenshot of the first post. The most common Oni (the black little devil like one) is called Onichi. (I named it before I new any Japanese at all, its a totally unintentional pun thing, "one demon")
He used FL studio with 8bit plug-ins.

Yes but in pronunciation, one wouldn't pronounce the u. Its more or less silent, like how a person learning english wouldn't write "hour" with their letter (if it applies) for "H", simply the sound. I learned it as Domo, I don't get marked down for writing it that way. But I do see what you mean, you make a good point.

And Ed, I can totally program the game, and do BG stuff aswell (:

Well. Heres the deal.
No matter how popular, how fun, or how wanted it is (and with my luck will not happen anyway..) There will never ever be a sequel (or prequel, which is stupid and would make no sense) to Momotaro. Its just not going to happen. I hate sequels. I have no plans for any games to have sequels so don't get your hopes up.
But other than that, I plan on working on the Notebook (click on my user name and then go to search for all threads) again. Which I have been enjoying a lot actually.
I also want to do an RPG, I have a few ideas but nothing solid. And you won't be seeing or hearing about anything until its ready to be played.

That's pretty funny, but "onichi" would mean "demon blood." It is correct that "ichi" means one, but "chi" means blood. But, I guess combining them could still function as a pun in the same way, and it's quite funny that it can be interpreted in such a way as "demon blood." If you want to make sure it's "one demon," you should change the name to Oniichi, which would just have a longer "i" sound. I'm sorry to be such a smarty-pants (for lack of a less vulgar word).

I realize most people don't like having random people want in, but if you want some help with the names, I'm in first year Japanese, and know quite a lot. I don't mean to impose, but it's just a suggestion if you want any help. There are probably members here of a much higher status that could help, so they would be a better option than I would.

Also, the Obakemono Project (LINK) is a great place to look up japanese monsters for your game. It's got information on a ton of monsters, and it's one of my favorite resources for information and ideas.

Also, there you should have larger oni called "O'oni." Adding an "O" before something means "honorable," "large," or "great." You know, like a bigger Onichi.

I'm not trying to get ahead of myself here, though I probably am.

EDIT: If you do want to put this on a hand-held console such as the PSP, I will talk to my friends. One of them is bound to know how. So, yeah. I'll ask around.
Guys shut up with the japanese discussion already please, focus on something else, srsly it's getting kind of annoying ...
Sorry, it's just based all upon Japanese. D:

If I were you, I'd tell us about the enemies. If you were to add upon it, we could give you ideas. Like a tengu monster~

You might want to show us what the monsters would look like without them being all black and v-pet-ish. I'm curious about taht~
