I need Genesis sprites ripped for this Homebrew project. If interested in helping me out, please hit me up on the PM. Cool

Even though this level of sprite mixing is horrible, the concept is great.
Using the sprites for Sonic Advance/Battle is a bad idea in my opinion. There's a lot of big genesis sheets with many edited poses and such that you can use.

agreeing with above post

I honestly don't like how so many of the sprites just clash with each other, but the engine is wonderful and the concept is great

Well, I don't care to much about sprites being mixing, as long it's within reason.
And not to be a dick to you guys, but I'm tired of people talkin "Sprite mixing". You think in this day an age, people can just play a game without pointing out every little flaw, and just see if it's good or not, that's why the Sonic fan base is so F'd up right now. and I find it funny that no one has ever said anything about sprite mixing in Mugen, which actually made some parts of it fun. I know I can't persuade everyone not to worry about it, but It's just that I don't care. This game is too important to me to worry a small thing like sprite mixing, yall feel me? Cool
BTW Speaking of sprite Mixing, these to guys will be in the next demo after the one I'm fixing up now. Both of their frame work is 100% done

Well, here's Tyvon, the amateur game director and commissionary spriter, to shit all over your post.

Unfortunately, this game isn't within reason in terms of sprite mixing. From what I see, nothing matches up with each other. It looks shoddy and lazy.

The Sonic fanbase is fucked up right now because of little baby retards being part of it. It's almost IMPOSSIBLE to find a fan of the current Sonic gen that isn't stupid. Sorry to say, but it's true.
As for "little flaws," sprite mixing is NOT a "little flaw." That's like saying a next-gen game on the PS3 or XBOX with N64-quality graphics is just a "little flaw" of the game. It's not. It's a huge turn-off.
Like I said earlier, it reflects poor quality in the entire game, and thus, people won't buy into it. Look at the new Rocket Night Adventures game coming out. Looks shitty. Therefore, looks unfun.
Gameplay IS the most important part of creating a game, but graphics are also on-par in terms of importance. If you don't have both, chances are it's not a good game.

MUGEN is SUPPOSED to be that; it's a fighter engine that doesn't have to take itself seriously. It's not a game. It's an engine. Notice that when people make REAL games in MUGEN, the sprites don't clash. It doesn't matter if the sprites or the graphics in an engine clash; engines are about functionality.

That's a dumb thing to say. A REALLY dumb thing to say. If you really cared about this game, you'd create a general sprite style that doesn't clash.

AND NOW HERE'S THE PART WHERE I ONLY KINDA SHIT ON YOUR POST:

It's PERFECTLY fine for your sprites to clash right now, since the game is still in development. However, if you expect anybody to take this project seriously, you're probably going to have to look into a general sprite style to use for every character before you create a final build of the game. I would suggest that you try to adapt the general style of the Genesis Sonic games, since that's easily the most common-known title on the Genesis. Plus, all of your Sonic characters will pretty much already have sprites to use, with the exception of Silver.

As for the sprites, Chakan looks fine. Silver's idle animation is stiff and unfomfortable though. Animating is a lot more than just copy and paste with slight pixel alteration. You have to make the poses look more natural. Try to do that pose yourself (complete with hopping) and you'll realize how uncomfortable it is. Then try to come up with a more comfortable-looking version of the pose (even if it's just making the limbs flow more), usually possible by doing the action yourself to "feel" how it would look. [This is what I do, and while it may not work for everyone, it's definitely a good pose springboard.]

Oh, I'd also like to add that the engine itself is well-done.

What did you expect from a game like this, this isn't the first you know. Smile

but this isn't Xbox nor PS3..... Wink

Good point, but most of these graphics are the originals so......

They may have been the point I was trying to make. Ninja

Should I mention I have next to no experience in spriting? and if I didn't care about this game, I wouldn't spend 14 hours a day working on it. I should also Mention that I plan on creating my own sprite style for my own original game, when I get to it. Smile
Quote:AND NOW HERE'S THE PART WHERE I ONLY KINDA SHIT ON YOUR POST:
Too much under this to comment to desperately, but I do see what you mean though. about what little spiriting skill I have, it's mostly with Sonic advance sprites, and I do intend on making edits to silver's Idle, and I actually made a few edits my self, but only for one animation.
Quote:Animating is a lot more than just copy and paste with slight pixel alteration.
This is how I do all my Beats of Rage sprites, it's easier for me to get them right in the game.
Quote:Oh, I'd also like to add that the engine itself is well-done.
That credit goes to the hard working devs at lavalit.com. one of them just released a new build, see if any of the new features are of any interest to ya:
http://lavalit.com:8080/index.php/topic,...n.html#new
on an end note, since I don't have the sprite experience I do plan to make up for it with everything else I can improve on this game. This is also a solo project, aside from the little help I get from the members of lavalit and sprite rippers from here and beyond, for the most part, I don't have a team of people with me. and not only am I Modding, ripping, and coding, I'm even working on my own original music to throw in the game as well. So I hope people at least play this before they make bad judgment on it. with all that said, thank you and everyone else for their interest and comments on this gangsta project. Cool
before I go, you guys can check out my tracks here, some of these are old and experimental but let me know what you think of you listen to anything here:

Because they're from the sonic series and they belong to Sega, so the real question is, why wouldn't they be in the game. Cool

Sega Genesis.

Haha, yeah. It is a bit jarring to see edited/custom sprites next to the rips. The 32X Chaotix sheets would be cool to see in action.

Basically yes. game made with this engine are referred to as mods.

Quote:PS: earthworm jim doesnt belong to sega :V
No he doesn't, he's a guest character who hasn't had very many games since the genesis era. It's the same reason why the Battletoads and Rick taylors are in this game to. To tell the truth, I can't see myself making this without Jim, he's the only Video Game character I like as much as Sonic, I watched the cartoons all the time. Cool

As much as this will go in one ear and out the other, I find it odd that even though this game is specifically named "SEGA GENESIS Mega Brawler" you're using styles that wouldn't work on the Genesis, and you're also using characters who didn't appear on it as well.

I really don't care about the extra characters (however odd it is) but the sprite mixing kills my eyes.

Well it being called SEGA GENESIS Mega Brawler doesn't mean the roster is restricted to the system, even though a lot of the roster did appear on it. As far as the sprites are concerned, I just use the best ones I can find, or can be more useful. This is about getting as many Sega characters in this game as possible, If they have the sprites I can use, regardless of style, I'm putting them in. I should also mention I'm gonna start work soon with Joe Musashi(Shinobi 3) and Hayate Musashi(Sahdow Dancer)Ninja, and I'm ripping sprites more often now(tech difficulty at home) starting with Contra Hard Corps and Probotector.
Also, I take no responsibilities for any damage caused from playing or even looking at this mod. lol. Cool
