For example, you can use an emulator like Desmume. It has a build-in tile-/sprite viewer, you can also observe maps and activate / deactivate layers.

It’s on the other end of that link above, so shout out to Barack Obama, but specifically Tinke has done wonders for me over the years when it comes to ripping from DS games.

It’s very beginner friendly and is also a really great starting point in situations that may be a little more advanced and require a deeper dive into the data. It’s just always made sense to me.

I highly recommend it.
