What programs can I use to open .bdl files?
#1
I found them in Super Mario Galaxy 2. Can anyone tell me any good programs that are able to open those files? Thanks.

Hiya ItsMeGamerAndBFDIer7!

First, you can convert your BDL files to BMD files using BDL Editor, and from there you can view and export those new BMD files in BMDView2.

Hope this helps, cheers!

The above thread is not recent but provides a download for the compiled program. The actual program hasn't been updated in forever, so you can compile it from the code archive I provided in my original post. Otherwise, please stop going around the forums begging for the program.

Well, like, I would be so triggered if some of the files had to be opened in 3DS Max.

Ok all of you stop right now. BMDView2 is the worst way to rip models from any JSYSTEM game. Use SuperBMD. It's drag and drop so just pass the BDL file through SuperBMD and you'll have a DAE+textures in PNG format.

To add to what I said: BMDView2 can just open the BDL files straight up. That's the whole reason it was updated to version 2, to "support" the MDL3 section that was added between BMD and BDL. MDL3 = Display Lists which are to improve render times in games such as Wind Waker. This feature was completely unused in SMG1 and 2.

And when I say support I mean that it ignores the section since it isn't necessary to render the model.

SuperBMD

All of the textures weren't able to get passed.
