I actually thought what if the main character's look was absolutely forgettable. But now that I've seen greensoft's character, I'll probably change the main character's design entirely.

Do you guys think I should still change the slime thing? Because I was thinking it would just be a starting enemy that you would never see again after the first level. Unless you want me to do something with it like give it a body-shape or something.

I tried changing it a bit.

Still teenage guy with messy hair, jeans, and no distinct personality. You've gotta make him less plain looking...

I mean he reminds me of the guy from jable's adventure minus the octopus on his head.

Like I've said before, the guy with the hammer has way more personality than your main character, because he's actually got a sort of gimmick going on that defines his character.

I suck at designing, I am trying to learn. Apparently, I think I'm doing quite well with other characters (not with the robot though, nothing original about that robot).

I really REALLY didn't want to make a flashy design, but I think I'm left with no choice.

part of a character desing includes its attitude, personality, movements, etc.
your character may look generic, but attitude is more than just a fancy dress.

look at my avatar, that little running guy's attitude and personality are practically given by the way he runs and by what he's doing(and how).

So it's basically lacking good facial expression, body language, original hairstyle and color, and proper clothing.

Like what the design in this sprite I made.

Designs not mine, sprite mine. Colors, bad.

I like your character, even if hes generic. I say you give him a cowboy hat, and a lazer sword. (Like the ones from SSBB, where it starts off short, but the harder you swing it, the farther it reaches... unless he wont have a weapon, and its more of a mario game, then the cowboy hat by itself would still be great.)
Any noise annoys an oyster, but a noisy noise annoys an oyster more.
